Howdy guys, I'm out of Western North Carolina obviously. I live near the VA border in the piedmont area.
For at least three or four years now I've been observing "moving stars" from my farm. While the lighting conditions aren't perfect I do has less light to content with than city dwellers and as a result star gazing is possible and I do my fair share of it. What I'm basically seeing are things that look like stars but are much brighter in most cases. These "moving stars" stay still most of the time, but often times they will move in odd ways. They will ascend and descend rapidly and move in ways that I've never seen an aircraft do..although I'm far from an expert on aircraft... What I'm basically saying is they don't move like the planes, jets, and choppers I see all of the time. The "moving stars" that I'm seeing come and go. Sometimes I'll see the same one in the same place for a few nights in a row. Other times I can't pick out any at all. Most are *bright* white/whiteish blue and I've also seen red and blue ones that "flicker". I've never seen one that "flickered" by itself..it is always in the company of a bright white "moving star". Whatever they are...I think they are miles away and flying *very* high. I've seen them more times than I can remember now. I've seen them in the company of others (family and friends mostly) and have pointed them out to people fishing at our pond. My father watched them with me one night and even he was at a lost to explain what it was. There is one outside right now if you're in the area...at least it was there when I registered a few minutes ago. Look towards the southern sky and you might see it! So basically I'm here to find out if anyone else is seeing what I'm seeing. I found this place via google BTW, some guy posted a video here that was from the Carolina area and it looked similar to what I'm seeing up here at the VA border. I'd like to get these things on tape so I also wanted to ask you guys for any advice on that front. I know how to edit/encode video already...I just need some advice on the best way to shoot things so high in the sky. I already know most cameras have problems focusing in when shooting the sky at night so I'd like some tips on avoiding that if possible. This post has been edited by WesternNC: Jun 5 2008, 12:48 AM |

By first focusing the camera on a very distant object you can get it to recognize that focus to infinity is required.
With moderate magnefication such as zoom camera lens and binoculars you can see structure in large objects in lower orbits. This is the case for the international space station which looks like a moving star and is often the brightest star in the sky. When objects such as the space station are observed they may appear to vanish when they move to where they fall in the earths shadow. While we are in darkness objects in orbit are lit by sunlight and that is the only reason we see them at all. |

Holy hell, I've been seeing one of those for the past few nights and really wondering about it. It looks like a hallogen lamp up there- really big and a bright bluish white. It is stationary most of the time but occasionally it will move or other flashes of light seem to come off of it. I'm guessing it might be a planet or space station? Maybe venus? That doesn't really explain much but it doesn't behave how you would expect a UFO to, either, so who knows?

Yes you probably saw UFOs.
The bright glow you see (that makes it look like a star) is the very hot plasma field that surrounds the ship. |

It sounds more like a satellite then a UFO. Just because you say you can see it in the same place on different nights and it stays stationary but sometimes moves. Satellite's do that are they are brighter then regular stars because they are closer.

I live in Lake Worth, Florida. On May 16th, my fiancee and I were at the beach. We both spotted what looked like a star out on the horizon. It was definitely not moving because there were sailboats moving below it and the Lake Worth Pier gave us perspective. After about 15 minutes another "star" appeared slightly below and to the side of the first one. This one was not as bright as the first. We then also started to notice flashing blue streaks moving in the sky in random patterns. These came and went over the next several minutes. After about 30 to 40 minutes, the second "star" began decending at a fairly rapid pace. It took about 10 seconds for it to disappear at the horizon. A few minutes later, the first "star" decended in the same way and disappeared.
Just wondered if this sounds anything like what you're seeing. Duff |

Just read another post about this same kind of experence. I read in his that they are alive. My thought here is maybe they are alive E.T. and with the changeing color of lights is there way of communicating. Some that are described is like they are playing. Like a parent and child play.
Something to think about. -------------------- live long and prosper

HI there, ! to you, this is my FIRST POST on ANYTHING net soo bear with mee.. YESSS!! i have been seeing the exact SAME thing here in WA state on the beaches for A YEAR now, and its NOT THE SPACE STATION either! i FIRST saw 1st one in jan? on a ice cold morning as a HUGE white light, just floating in the sky WHITE, like magnesium white ( flireworks) what was ONE, is now one BIG ship, maybe low earth orbit or 6 miles Up hard to say, with 5 probe ships to the North, and West OF mee.. with 8X50 binoculars? you WONT see these moving with naked EYE. watch for slow floating movement W/OUT binoculars. but what I AM seeing, moves west either over NIGHT, with OTHERS taking its place from the EAST. WITH NO SOUND. advice when taping? try VHS and nOT just DIGITAL also? if you MUST? bolt/hammer the tripod DOWN in the GRASS, and fix the camera ON one of these damn things, soo NO one can say ' YOU were moving while doing the video,, , lier' in MY opinion stars ( planets) DONT MOVE, 2 ft. in ONE direction, in 24 or 48 HOURS.. it does not WORK that way. my MOM has seen MANY of the same strobing crafts in our skies here. they DO move, just NOT fast.. theres a REASON FOR THAT.. we are not supposted to KNOW there here? We have MANY here that ALSO flicker YES.. red, blue, green, and in THAT order! again these are NOT planes, NOT choppers.. THINK ABOUT IT.. they would have to leave to refuel.. these DONT LEAVE there co ordinates in the sky, they just bobble, hover, and float. i AM betting,, there MAY be a network accross the globe mabe.. NO idea. thats NOT fact just opinion here. Also? NO one sends up jets for radar intercept out here in WA state. maybe they use gravity engines to cloak from any RF/ radar signature? please DO drop me a line on ANY info you think is a good idea or relavant! your NOT NUTS! We have the EXACT same things HERE, over WA state. survivorman36@yahoo.com |

WHY would the space station move IN a CIRCLE like that, that FAST.. 3 inches down HERE is a LOT of distance UP THERE... sattelites DONT move like this, UNLESS there government spy birds? yes maybe, but sattelites TRACkkk from NorthWest, to South East.. and they DONT STOP on a DIME, even n REAL TIME (watching it AS it happens) |

VERy interesting! about the plasma FIELD.. but my ? iss, is this a THEORY, or how do you ACTUALLY know this?? COULD, a plasma field CLOAK or 'stealth' a radar signature making these completely invisble to our ground radars? both commercial AND military? Becausee NO ONE out HERE, (military jets etc) sends ANYTHING UP, ever.. and i KNOW these things move and no one seems to care. |

NOPE, not a sattelite, NOT a STAR.. satelites, and stars, DO NOT move 2 to 3 INCHES, in ' X minutes, and move, and FLOAT in a visible SEEABLE circle path in the sky.. we have ONE BIG ship out here, and at least 4 smaller ones, the tiny ones are smaller (higher up) and blink, green, red, and blue in THAT order from what i have seen. SOMETHINGS UP, and i DONt think we're supposted to KNOW there HERE... they look JUST LIKE STARS, unless you watch THEM with YOUR OWn eyes... |

It's not the ISS or a satelitte, they follow an orbit, they cannot just stop or change direction in any dramatic fashion,The satelittes are not as bright as stars, they do not produce thier own light it is reflected light,i have seen the satelitte or something pass over every 86 minutes, most likely a satelitte as it goes the same direction at a constant speed.
I think you can rule out the ISS and satelittes,it has to be something else you witnessed. |

I LIVE IN BRADENTON FLORIDA, AND DISCOVERED THESE WITH 2OTHER PEOPLE MAYBE A MONTH AGO, I HAVE SEEN ALL THE TYPES YOU HAVE SEEN LATELY, THERE ARE ONLY ONE OR TWO, BUT THE FIRST NIGHT I NOTICED THESE WE ALMOST FREAKED OUT BECAUSE THERE HAD TO BE MORE THAN 500 OF THEM...THEY WERE ALL STILL AT FIRST, SKY LOOKED FULL OF STARS, THEN I SAW ONE MOVE AND THEN IT STOPPED AND STARTED MOVING THE OTHER WAY... REALLY FAR OUT IN SPACE BUT MOVING SO QUICKLY. THEN THERE WHERE HUNDREDS OF STARS SUDDENLY MOVING. WE WHERE FREAKED. WE HAVE NOTHING THAT RESEMBLES STARS IN OUR AIRFORCE. |

OH, AND I SEARCHED SATELLITES.. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE IN THE SKY SO WE WOULD SEE THEM ALL THE TIME..AND THEY MOVE IN THE SAME ORBIT NEVER STOPPING, AND MOVING OTHER DIRECTIONS. SO THEY ARE NOT SATELLITES. THEY ARE
U.F.O'S BUT THEY LOOK LIKE STARS! |

Okay.... I saw this "star" this evening 10:05 pm edt in the ENE sky. It was flashing red, on top and white/yellow on the bottom. Didn't move. But every once in a while a beam of light would run out the side and
would flash smaller lights, then it would stop. Wasn't a plane either. Also what made me go outside was I heard what I thought was thunder. Didn't think about it and then I heard it again. That's when I went out to look at the sky. No clouds just the moon and this "star". I even had my husband come out to look at it. I live in north western NC. Interesting. 10:44 pm checked allthe sats in my area..... nothing in that area this evening. This post has been edited by Snowy: Oct 11 2008, 08:45 PM |

I live outside of Charlotte NC and have been seeing nearly the exact same moving stars in the eastern sky the past two nights. i tried to video and take pictures, but nothing worked. i don't really have a good explanation either. I called some UFO hotline and they said it was likely a star and were not too interested. I tried to show my wife, but she didn't think much of it. i am sure it is not a regular airplane, star or anything i've ever viewed before. But I can say for sure the past two night in the eastern sky of Charlotte at 10:30-12:30 you can see the same phenomenon.

I would like to add to the above statements. I do not feel I saw anything that moved quickly. What I saw was a group of stars 5-7 that moved in a variety of directions slowly and would change directions often. It did see, to head in a western direction, however it was not a straight path. It would stop on occassion and would then move a little quicker. I would describe the shape as a "T" or cross or kite shape with a 2 star tail. I was able to view this for 45 minutes last night and again tonight. I didn't notice much blinking or bluish lights, just white or yellow stars. It was very high in the sky. I believe some people were describing flares in this forum, but this is much different. As far as theories, I would say the most likely thing for me would be a satellite or space station or UFO. I have no idea if they are trying to communicate or this is some government cover-up. But I feel some people should watch this and try to get in informed opinion. I feel if people are really seeing this and can predict with good possibility its arrival then we should contact local news outlets and let them report and investigate. That is what the UFO hotline told me to do. But I don't want to look crazy.
Anyone in and around Charlotte, watch the eastern sky after 10 pm for slow moving stars. |
