At over 21 stories high it will be the largest optical telescope of its kind.

It never will since it needs to go through our distorted atmosphere and the only way to acheive this is through a laser (focus on atrifical star - laser point focusing) hubble dont have this problem one of the prime reasons for hubble being were it is - i think this telescope is not meant to replace hubble but more to replace one of the now aging 20years+ old telescopes on the ground.

It will have Adaptive Optics to overcome atmospheric distortions.

Yup they fire a laser to create an artifical star then look at its distortion and the opticic compansats for the distortion, they have a few nothing as big so will bite my lip until i see the images but none have managed to out do hubble so far so fail to see how this one will do it.

Personally I think huge telescopes on the moon will be the way to go in the future.
