One of the most famous abductions stories concerning Barney and Betty Hill occurred in 1951 and Roswell in 1947.Maybe the abductions are happening because we have some of thier kind being held against thier will.Some people aren't just abducted,they vanish,'vanish of the face of the earth' as the sayin goes.there may have been much earlier abductions..maybe jesus and moses were while they disappeared for a short while.

I recall a bus load of people disappearing out in the desert of Egypt somewhere.

I would have a hard time believing that a highly advanced species from another planet/dimension would be held against it's own will. But more importantly, I really can't picture those tactics being used by a highly advanced race. You have our guy so we're gonna kidnap a couple of hillbillies in the middle of nowhere? The US government would just laugh and play the "we don't negotiate with terrorists" card and that would be the end of that.

Now if the aliens said "give us back our guy or we'll reveal energy technology that will cripple the oil industry and leave you idiots bankrupt", I would definetly believe that.
