I agree Bart. The elements wouldn't allow a formation like that to occur.

Giant Foot Print 200 Million Yrs Old - South Africa - YouTube
Not sure where I should post this, so I stuck it here.
I think it is just a rock formation that looks like a footprint.
I have seen all kinds of odd rocks and wierd shapes in trees.
My first issue is that it is in granite.
Granite was never mud, it is of volcanic origin.
Granite - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
My second issue is the claim that it was originally horizontal, then shifted to the vertical by tectonics.
That is an assumption not in evidence, it would take a geological evaluation to determine that.
My third issue is the assertion of age, again it would take an evaluation with lab tests to determine the age.
Granite is still being produced today.
My fourth issue is a common mistake, making conclusions without investigation or evaluation.
For all we know, it is just some wood debris or a carved statue that was covered with hot flowing lava that caused it to burn away leaving a void.
It could even be nothing more than just an odd shape of rock that was never a cast of anything.
It would be interesting to evaluate, if any one thought it worthy of spending the bucks for some lab tests and stuff.
But I think serious researchers would need something a lot more compelling than an odd shaped rock to do so.
Not a lot of frivalous research money lying around.
But, I thought I would toss it out here for a look see.
Personally, I think it is most likely nothing.
But, without a solid evaluation, that cannot be assumed.
There have been a number of dinosaur footprints that were erroniously assumed to be human before.
Many of the species had similar foot shapes, and erosion modifies them further.
Whatever works, use it.

If it stands or falls on the credibility of the author, maybe it isn't such a good idea.

bart....an interesting find. If you could find me a non-youtube write up perhaps I could answer some of the questions.

Welcome to Chrissiesmeer - The Lake District of South Africa
Here is what I could find.
It is also interesting to note that other depressions that do not resemble anything are also there, they just look like normal weathering.
Also quite possible that some ancient rock carver enhanced the depression a bit.
Whatever works, use it.

bart....thanks for the link. It looks like a natural weathering pattern to me. I think this fits in the "myth and folklore" category....and david ickes presence certainly doesn't help its cause at all.
Nature creates wonderful shapes....afterall I used to have a rock the shaped like a duck.
"A person does not get as much excercise running in place as they do running from a lion" the most interesting man in the world.
I was trying to ignore Icke and just look at the rock itself.
Since local legends surround it, and that was before Icke tried to bastardize it with his whacked out theories.
I too think it is just weathering, but it is possible that somebody enhanced it a bit with some creative rock chipping.
And, I have a collection of odd rocks as well.
Nature can produce some amazing shapes and mineral combinations.
Everything we think we invented, has an example of its use somewhere in nature.
No pc we ever made can come close to matching the computing power of genetics.
Whatever works, use it.

Looked like chips at the botttom where the coins were, this may be of modern age,lol it looks good but it don't make sense,i would like to have it and put in my front yard.the guy in the video seemed like he pumping up tourism.
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.
bart....it could easily have been altered over the millenia by humans But without a closer look I won't speculate on it. The thing with granite is thats its formed underground and when it solidified and weathered to the surface nothing could leave a footprint in it no matter how big it was.
I simply think its a natural weathering formation....but I can understand why some locals feel it is a devine footprint.
By the way I chose to ignore ickes presence as well....he just doesn't help the case of the locals.

I think it's formed by a combination of natural processes and a little help from human hands IMO. It probably wasn't formed
by a giants foot due to the formation and composition of Granite.
