Now I could use a spray can of this stuff...

The fissure was induced in order present an image which shows the characteristics of the coating. The image shows the SiO2 coating on a filament of a microfibre.
(PhysOrg.com) -- Spray-on liquid glass is transparent, non-toxic, and can protect virtually any surface against almost any damage from hazards such as water, UV radiation, dirt, heat, and bacterial infections. The coating is also flexible and breathable, which makes it suitable for use on an enormous array of products.

I'm afraid I agree with the person who, on that site, wrote "Sounds like the new asbestos." If inhaled for extended periods of time, SiO2 particles can cause pulmonary problems because they do not dissolve and becomes lodged in the delicate pulmonary tissue. Though I doubt that a liquid conglomerate contains a fine dust, but a more inert form? Nonetheless, it truly is a novel and revolutionary concept.

Whoever mentioned transparency? I thought the topic is titled Spray-on liquid glass, not invisibility spray. Isn't this spray have some sort of negative side effect that's harmful the the general human being?

That was transparent aluminum, not steel.

One risk of small molecular structures, as in nanotek, is that cells have no mechanism to deal with them.
Asbestos fibers migrate freely through cells because they are too small for the cell to manipulate.

If spray on glass can remain in bound form even when damaged, no problem.
If tiny molecular structures become unbound, cell damage from exposure is possible.

Fiberglass is usually rejected by cells because the fibers are larger than asbestos.
And fiberglass is still on the suspect list for cell damage leading to cancer.

So nanotek, and indeed any thin molecule structure, must be examined for this consideration.
This does not mean it has no applications.
Asbestos is still used, just not in unbound form.
    Whatever works, use it.

A good idea stands on its own value independent of authorship.
If it stands or falls on the credibility of the author, maybe it isn't such a good idea.

Very impressive answer, just wanted to know if it was biologically safe.
