Exclamation Devil Worm: Deepest Living Animal

    Hello everyone,
Recently, while mining in the deepest man made Gold mine. Located in South Africa, scientists have discovered a new nematode species—called Halicephalobus mephisto partly for Mephistopheles, the demon of Faustian legend. Before this new discovery, nematode species where not known to live more than a dozen feet under the surface of Earth.. These species live 2.2 miles below!! :jawdrop: This new found species, feeds on Rock. Thrown into a "survival" mode, by a depletion of oxygen in such depths.. Evolved to survive immense heat and pressure, measuring a small .5 millimeters. This discovery has opened many doors to new exploration of our own depths.. Aswell as the depths of other planets. These worms have been on this Earth for thousand of years! If a living species can survive, in a sense, unlivable environments.. Who's to say there isn't some on planets we thought could never sustain living life?

Here is a magnified picture of the species. Click the image to enlarge

P.S. Yes this species is classified as an Animal, worms are classified as animals/annelids.

    That is interesting.
I suspect there is more life at those depths and possibly deeper awaiting discovery.

A very nice find.....thanks for sharing it for us. Life on earth never ceases to amaze me and I'd say we haven't even scracthed the tip of the iceberg in our findings.

This is a really interesting story!

I still have a hard time with the belief that bigfoot may live underground, however. As a tall man myself, I can't imagine a creature over 7' tall that travels in caves.
