Having visited this site today and read some posts I was left wondering. No not in the wilderness just in thought. I take it we've all had dreams of falling. I know I have. From falling off cliffs, jumping low brick walls to find a massive drop, from the bed seemingly being tilted on end to fall into a black void and so on. I think this is a common thing and best explanation I heard was something to do with blood pressure dropping as you entre "ram" sleep.

As a child I had quite a few flying dreams. I always felt exillerated afterwards. In those dreams I could fly by will power alone. No devices needed just up up and away, Super man like. A couple of months ago I had a flying dream where I was working on an anti grivity device that you held onto (gawd knows why). The thing looked a little like a small life bouy simular to those orange things in eek, "bay watch" (fraudian? lol). I haven't had a flying dream in over 30 years.

So whats with the flying thing? Do we all at some time have flying dreams? Some folk I've talked to say yes but others have said no.

Whats the general concensus here and what do you folk think causes it?

I too use to have those dreams, although I was more levitating at will than flying. I was always in a verticle position as if standing.
I rarely dreamed of falling, when I did I was never frieghtened and in one dream reached out to the ledge, that should have been much too far to reach, grabbed it and pulled myself back up.

Cause? I tend to go with the scientific explanation, although sometimes the Paranormal ones may be the better one.

I too have had flying dreams. ( read my posts! ). I used to dream as a kid about flying out of my bed and through the closed window. Sometimes I'd head to a destination not of my own choosing and at other times, I'd go off on my own. I'd buzz the neighbour's barn or fly low over a creek! I'd take it slow most of the time, although I could fly very fast at others. I'd dream of teaching others to fly too. A puzzling after effect was that when I dreamt that I was falling ( mostly as a kid as well ) I'd dream about falling through the bed. Over and over again, I'd fall through the bed. At the end of the dream, I'd hit the final bed that I couldn't fall through. I'd bounce up off the bed and fall back down again. The trouble was that I woke up as I hit the bed, ( you do that when you are in a nightmare ) and was awake as I bounced back up again. My brother commented on my bouncing up in bed ( he saw it too ) and I told him about my falling dreams. He told me that he had flying dreams, but never falling ones. I didn't bounce up a little either. I bounced up so that my body was clear of the mattress and I was lifting the sheets and blankets.

I did have flying dreams as an adult too, but none recently. One series I remember was teaching a young woman to fly. I'd fly over to her camper and phase through the wall. I'd tell her to get dressed as we would be going outside. We went outside and I'd start flying. She freaked at this and I'd catch her. I'd pick her up in my arms and then I'd hold onto her with one hand like the scene in the first superman movie. I'd land and she told me that that was nice. I told her to try it on her own now. She told me that people can't fly. I went over to her and reached out to touch her. She thought I was going to strangle her. I reached up behind her head and felt with my mind inside her brain. I made the part that makes her fly activate ( it's in the general area where the visual cortex is ) She flew. I let her down and told her to make herself do that again with the same feeling at the back of her head. She flew on her own. She was amazed. I'll edit out this bit of the story. It's religious in nature. She challenged me to a flying race. I told her that we'd race across the quarter. ( A quarter of land is an area 1/2 mile by 1/2 mile. It's 160 acres. ) The flying race was going to cover a distance of 1/2 mile. She agreed. I told her that I'd give her a 500 foot head start which she thought was too advantageous for her. She could fly and she could fly very fast. She took off anyway and at the limit of the head start she turned around to have a look on my progress. She didn't see me. She turned back to her flying and I was ahead of her. She stopped. She turned back and looked to see if I was coming. I flew by her so fast, I was a blur. She couldn't believe that I was that fast. The dream ended with me flying home. We worked together and the dream occurred on a Friday night. On Monday she wanted to talk to me. She talked about the dream. I told her that I had the same dream. We even completed each other's sentences.

I've had flying or falling dreams for a couple years. The falling ones i always wake up with a jump and end up usually kicking my legs in the air. One of the most annoying things I would have to say. Then the flying dreams are awesome. Mostly because I am usually flying out in the open and can sometimes control it for a certain amount of time.
