Low doses of the main active ingredient in marijuana slowed the progression of hardening of the arteries in mice, according to a new study.

Experts stressed that the finding does not mean people should smoke marijuana in hopes of getting the same benefit.

"To extrapolate this to, 'A joint a day will keep the doctor away,' I think is premature," said Dr. Peter Libby, chief of cardiovascular medicine at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital.

The mouse work is presented in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature by Dr. Francois Mach of Geneva University Hospital in Geneva, Switzerland, and colleagues. He said in an e-mail that he believed future work will focus on finding drugs that mimic the benefit without producing marijuana's effects on the brain.

I haven't smoked pot in years, but I'm still a member of NORML, and truely believe in my heart that pot has been turned into a scapegoat for societal evils the very people who are actively criminalizing it perpetuate.
It has a wide variety of medical uses which remain unexplored due to fear, ignorance and power hungry politicians.

I am happy for it to be used for medical purposes if it doesn't have any bad side effects, why not. If it can help us in some way why not explore it.

I actually know two people that use it for medical purposes....
one has MS
and the other Lupis

its incredible to see the difference in these people if they dont smoke vs when they do.....

I have watched the MS male go thru hell for about 15 yrs, when his oldest son said, dad, go ahead, try this,.............hell what did he have to lose.....he was in a wheel chair...........
he did it.....nothing,,,,
did it again......nothing........
did it again.......whammmmmmmmmmm
felt great.................he is alive, feels alive and does more with himself than he had in 10-20 yrs.....very creative energy he has.....NOW..............

the lupis woman I know, it really messes with her, throws her into a depression like no other......

so she smokes a lil pot, takes an anti depression....

she is messed up.........

there are currently 7 people in the US that receive maijuana for medical purposes from the government, and they can legally smoke it where ever smoking is allowed.

minus the thousands that have discovered the herb and use it to make them handle life.........without the us gov involved.....
