just because i believe in them , doesnt mean you do, and just because some one doesnt believe in them , doesnt mean i dont have to. beliefs are just ideas in the making.

He might be planning to point out that UFO means something unidentified. It's a silly, smart-ass point if he is because when someone says they believe in UFOs they are meaning UFOs as in alien ships or secret military craft.

pretty much what you guys said, I wasn't trying to start a discussion I was just venting (which is why I put it in coffee shop) its just to say you believe in UFOs' is to say that you believe there are some things we don't know!? regardless of what people think UFO is, it stand for unidentified flying object, and by definition you can't belive or disbelieve in it.
it doesn't really matter that much its just one of my pet hates? |

If there are 'unidentified' objects out there then yes I believe there are unidentified objects out there.....what's wrong with that? It's exactly the same logic that says I 'believe' the space shuttle exists, I've never seen it, never heard it, never touched it but I believe it exists. Exactly the same way that I believe 'things' which are unidentified exist. Just coz I don't have a name for them don't mean they don't exist. Ben |

What he's trying to say is that a UFO by definition is something in the sky you can't identify (Hey, a rhyme!)
It could be a bird, a plane, Superman, anything. It's a flying object that you don't know what it is. It doesn't have to be an alien spacecraft. |

It's still a daft thing to say sriontoc, it's obvious someone isn't proclaiming their belief or doubt in something that they don't know. Like the way Xerox has come to mean photocopying, UFO has come to mean an alien or secret government craft.

I always use 'saucer' it saves confusion. I believe anything is possible so I don't disbelieve in either of the definitions of UFO.
:confused:Why is it not possible to believe in unidentified objects again? It is indeed possible to believe something unidentified exists.

There is too much video and photographic evidence to say UFOs aren't flying in our skies. I've always said the real question is whether 100% of them are military air craft or if some are military air craft and a small percentage are of ET origin.

lol well I think SRI is trying to say that you can neither disbelieve nor believe in something which is by definition 'undefined'..or in this case 'unidentified'...for to believe or disbelieve in anything, you must have some conception of the thing which you believe or disbelieve...in other words, you may believe in alien spacecraft but you may not believe in UFOs...but that is like trying to give a definition to the word 'nothing'...you cant, though we have some conception of what nothing is...lol
It may seem silly but, really, I dont think it is...for it gives some insight into how and why we think and believe... |
