Hey guys. Just wondering who your favorite investigators and authors were on the UFO subject. Aside from the classics like Hynek, I also enjoy reading Kevin Randle and Jim Marrs, although the latter has only written one book on the subject that I know of. Their writing is easy to read and they seem to be pretty well grounded. What are your thoughts?

First of all welcome to the forums ibelieve2.....There are thousands of authors on the subject, from the scientific points of view, to the extreme fringes of UFOLOGY, most can be a good read offering good (if not insecure) evidence, others from a more sci-fi approach to the subject (Icke, etc...).

We have a couple of authors at A-U, one being a new member "Traveller" (Rolf Waeber) who has done extensive research on the subject.....his book and Excerpts from it can be found here....... http://www.trafford.com/05-1271

I am sure other members will share their own favorite authors with you, I do not have a favorite writer on the subject, and I personally like to keep an open mind on other peoples writing, and draw my own conclusions. smile.gif

Hi ibelieve2,

a have a lot of favorite UFO authors. For example: Whitley Strieber, Jim Marss, Dolores Cannon, Patricia Cory, Jelaila Starr, Barbara Marciniak, Omnec Onec, Travis Walton, Frank Stranges, and a lot more.
Check my book and you will find many researchers and investigators with their internet addresses http://www.trafford.com/05-1271
Happy reading
Rolf

My library is growing. I am starting to aquire books that I read as a boy but lost. Ebay is a wonderful thing! I have most of Strieber's books. Like them a lot. Friedman is good as well. I keep an open mind while reading and take into account the slant of the author. Of course, when we find one that is slanted in our direction, we tend to think of them as the best. LOL

I always thought George Knapp was a reasonably grounded reporter.

Agreed. I think he takes a rather practical approach to ufology.

I enjoy Tex Marrs, John E. Mack, and Budd Hopkins, one of the pioneers in UFO and abduction research, and my mentors.

I just been informed by Rube from a different post, that the techniques the John Mack uses may be flawed. He may also be too attached to the whole phenomon to give an unbiased, untainted perspective to the whole matter. I still like his works, but I'm seeing Mack from a different point of view which is good I think...

peace,
Austin

I have no idea who this Rube is but Mack has more qualifications, more insight into the human psyche than anyone Ive ever met.

His techniques rather than flawed are well proven in clinical tests not just on alledged abductees and vistitations.

Mack in Conferences does/did not say he is a believer but that there is overwhelming evidence to show there is something of great significance to mankind within the evidence so far. A Profound awareness of the Cosmos was being unleashed...

There is nothing wrong with his techniques (R.I.P.) Um pardon-too attached, you have not read where he came from before he was involved in this and, he was impartial and unbias.

He put his career on the line (for no gain at all) for this subject, while we here all the time, well..where is the scientific evidence for this phenomenon, he was working on that angle.

Why do you say he was too attached, what evidence do you have to assert this?? All Mack did was try to make some sense of a phenomenon that appeared to be sensless...Maybe Rube has been reading his friend "Carl Sagan".

Ive met Mack and talked to him and know much about him. He was a down to Earth person with incredible insights into the human mind from years of clinical tests and his own students. He took each case on its merits or lack of, he never said this is the truth, he never came out and said, all I have seen is real...

He used the same tests that world wide psycologists and psychiatrists use, he was no different at all... his manner might be eccentric but what professor isnt...

What excatly are these flawed techniques by the way??

Between Mack and Friedman and Heynek, these three have done more to unravel these different type of events than anyone else connected to science. Why some dont agree that does not mean they were flawed in their techniques.

I would say John Mack, Budd Hopkins, and Whitley Strieber. I also read a book titled Without Consent by Carl Nagaitis and Philip Mantle which was pretty interesting.

I've read that a while back. Right now I'm reading a book called Uninvited Guests by Richard Hall.
I'm lucky there is this used book store near me with a bunch of out of print ufo books.

There's a couple near where I live. Keeps my library growing. I really like the cutting edge science they reveal in "Sight Unseen," and how it relates to the UFO/Abduction phenomenon. Facinating.

I agree with T.c concerning Dr. John E. Mack. His techniques are anything but flawed. As far as being too attached to the phenomenon, I don't believe he was. However, even if he was (he's passed away for those who do not know) that is not a problem. He was a skeptic at one time and then became convinced to research the subject and changed his mind on the matter. What is wrong with that? Is it saying that a professional person should not have an opinion based upon their own research? That is tantamont to saying that Billy Graham should not have a strong belief in God even though his own experiences indicate that there is a God.
