Whats all this Net Speak or short hand ? Ive been on the net 3 years and im not very savvy as regards html ect, im not that interested in it but I like having a chat on forums. I constantly come up against shorthand statements so enlighten me please.

lol :lots of laughs (I know that....used to think it meant lots of love ?)

Give me and other who are similar too me a run down of common phrases or new ones ?

Thanks

G'day not digital... ok... Internet jargon...

lol can also mean laugh out loud...

IMAO ....in my arrogant opinion

IMHO ....in my honest/honourable/humble opinion

ROFLMAO ...roll on floor laughing my arse off

BTW ...by the way

Anyway... here is a site with some of the internet jargon commonly used today... But you can do a search and find heaps more of themmm and all the various smilies too... Stuff like this makes it easier for the slow typer too... and kinda also gets emotions and expressions across to whoever you are chatting to... smile.gif

Learning to type quickly an accurately isn't so hard with a little practice, and when you aren't constrained as to the length of your message (like you are on an SMS text message), I don't see what is wrong with plain English.

Nah... no mistake... IMAO appears in the jargon dictionary... You know... some people actually joke around and know how to take the mickey out of themselves and others without taking offence and taking everything someone says seriously and or personally... I've seen that expression IMAO used in this way in posts when people 'battle' each other's differing opinions with humour and wits without offence intended... It's a specific talent to be able to understand and do this...

Like, IMNSHO means In My Not So Humble Opinion...

I'm not much of a user of of internet jargon... ... NTIMM, but sometimes it can be handy to know what some of these expressions mean, like not digital says...

There is no problem with it if it's funny and it's not insulting people. Just because I don't swear, it doesn't stop other people, I know plenty of people who have great trouble expressinging themselves without swearing, the Internet makes expressing your feelings even harder, just remember that there are minors about so don't take it too far smile.gif
