12noon, your list in missing two of the most used and best operating system ever developed. Win 2000 and UNIX. Both Win2k and UNIX are far more superior to WinXP.

You might also want to include VMS as another OS.

Unix would be the best choice, although you cannot compare it to Win2k, because Win2k is still GUI while Unix is command based, Unix is advanced based user OS..

Yup, i forgot to add those.
:blush2:
BTW Windows 2000 will be out of date by the end of this year. Microsoft are dropping the support for it. You should either upgrade or hope no body finds any holes in it because you wont be getting any more patches.

I liked windows 2k because it only crashed when you did something wrong,
now XP crashes if you breathe the wrong way!

im going to have to say unix, still the best. IMHO

UNIX isn't that good because it has no official developement, hell it hasn't even been decided who truly owns it yet. The Linux and BSD kernels have far surpassed it by now and so did BeOS (too bad that failed).

Heres a few reasons windows doesn't work good without unecesary work
virus communicable, windows executes pretty much everyhting it has access to
spyware, it executes any Directx on a webpage easily giving you spyware, also done through javascript
maintainability, it doesn't actually let you do anything, you can change or edit modules, you can't access the kernel and it doesn't actually give you error messages it merely states an error ocurred
developement costs, higher developement costs because you can't use convient libraies because most users are to lazy to download and build new libraries
etc
