Hi
I did not live in Fl during this wave of sightings. Does anyone have anything to say about the Gulfbreeze Fl sightings? Just curious. Thanks.

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum. Good question, about the Gulf Breeze case.

After having read Ed and Frances Walters' book, "The Gulf Breeze Sightings" (1990, Avon), I am convinced that the sightings were a hoax.

It was a popular hoax and I think Ed Walters had everyong going for a time. There was a strange story associated with the purported Gulf Breeze sightings - you may have heard it already. Several American military servicepeople, stationed in Germany, I think it was, went AWOL and would up in Gulf Breeze because they so believed the sighting reports. I think this story indicates how much strength the Gulf Breeze sightings stories had in their day.

Hate to say it, but I think Ed Walters started the hoax and other people played into it and backed him up. I think many people were pulled in as suckers, also.

Actually, when I was first reading Walters' chilling account of the series of contacts, I was hooked into the hair-raising story. The verity of it all fell apart for me when I read the account of how the aliens contacted him in his sleep and addressed him as, "Zathros". That was such a silly Star Trek name that it sunk any faith I had in Walters.

This old book is worth a read. I think it says a lot about UFO mythology in the US, its importance to people, how people pile myth on myth to create something that makes money, how "believers" (intentionally or unintentionally) support each others' efforts to maintain certain myths in our world.

This is all my opinion and other people here may feel very differently.

Mary

Not really correct information the sightings go way back to the 50`s before walters made up the hoax.

Thank you, Seth. I'll take a look at it.

Yes, both of your links state that there have been sightings since 1952.

The second link states that there was a red object, sighted multiple times near Gulf Breeze that was nicknamed, "Bubba". There was a red object, recurring sightings, over the Phoenix suburb of Gilbert about 6 or 7 years ago that locals also nicknamed, "Bubba". Maybe somebody in Phoenix got the idea for the nickname from accounts about Gulf Breeze.

I wouldn`t waste a dime on someone who hoaxes good read or not as far as I`m concerned he can jump in a pit of gators.....

It`s really sad when you have real sightings then you get one jag off that creates a hoax to take advantage of people to make money...

The sightings were real before this guy but all everyone sees now is the hoax and they forget the time before this fool!

Good point, Seth. Could be that there have been plenty of hard sightings near Gulf Breeze over the years and then someone like Walters appears and does what he is suspected of doing and it muddies the waters for real investigation, making this case another example of the constant sifting needed when looking at UFO stuff.

You're right, Seth, looks like there is a lot more to Gulf Breeze than Ed Walters. Thank you.

I believe it is, their is a Naval Air Station, Air Force Base, and busy Airport all less than ten miles from Gulf Breeze.

That would account I`m sure for the highest percentage of ufo sightings...However there are a few reported unexplained sightings by credible people.

Well, if not man-made or natural, an area of high military concentration may be something ET's would like to study...

Plus, Moblie and Biloxi are two important military and manufaturing centers on the Gulf Coast and are in close proximity to Pensacola...

I stayed for a week in treasure Island near Tampa. MacDill Air Force Base was close by and no such luck in seeing anything unexplained....Of all the places I saw a Ufo was outside my own house. Patrick Air force base is not too far from me.

I get a real good view when the shuttle launches biggrin.gif

My grandmother used to say that their were about 3 or 4 UFO sightings a year there in Lake County, but the vast majority we quickly found to have down to earth causes...
