A friend of mine needs to know who sculpted/designed the Yuri Gagarin statue in Moscow, and if possible the date it was erected. Here's a picture of it so you know that you are looking at the right one:

http://www.ffagency.com/gagarin/bild/12.jpg

I've tried to find something about it but failed, I don't know if anyone else will be able to do better.

Thanks. smile.gif

That info might be too elusive to be found on the net, I think.

Xander I am sure the Information is somewhere in Google, but after nearly an hour of trying different ways to search "Gagarins monument" I give up, I will try to look into it deeper when the kids are in bed. smile.gif

I have managed to find the date of its unveiling (July 4, 1980), on the eighth result of the Google search term +"gagarin square" +monument.

http://www.videocosmos.com/calendar-july0110.shtm

Doubt you'll be so lucky in finding the name of a designer though.

Someone managed to find it in a Russian newspaper article: sculptor P. Bondarenko, designer A. Sudakov. I couldn't immediately find any websites mentioning those guys, so that information might not be available in English. Thanks for all the help. smile.gif

This .pdf seems to have it in Italian:

http://www.esamizdat.it/dri_temi_art_eS_2005_(III)_2-3.pdf

Rough translation from Google translator:

"The draft of a work of the sculptor P. Bondarenko realized together with the architects (indeterminate first initial) Belopolsky and F. Gazevsky, while the direction of the jobs came entrusted to A. Sudakov.

The cited reference is this Russian webpage:

http://moscowvision.ru/walks/sk195.html

The text at the bottom of which reads, when translated through Babelfish:

"In the center of area rises the monument to Yuri Gagarin, established here during July 1980. (sculptor P. bondarenko, architects 4. belopol'skiy, F. gazhevskiy, designer A. sudakov)."
