Hey friends,

Kindly post your warm wishes here for Ben and Lucy.

Ben has, for about a month now, been toughing out a painful condition that seems to be a serious, marked sciatica (inflamation of the large nerves of the hip and leg). He's been dutifully resting and trying to make the situation better. This evening, the discomfort became so intense that Lucy called for an ambulance and we've just seen him off to the hospital for an emergency look-see.

Like the good fellow he is, he asked me to drop you folks a line and let you know that he'll be back when things subside.

Again, I know that Lucy and Ben would love to hear from you, so let's show them our support here.

Much love to everyone,
Mary (sg)

Hello and smiles to Xeno, DeathBerrty and FenStar and everyone.

Lucy has just called from the hospital to say that doctors seeing Ben are indeed saying that he may indeed have an acute sciatica. They're already working on pain management for him and he will soon be getting a fuller workup. She also mentioned that Ben says that the ambulance drivers kindly told him that he had a wonderful daughter in Lucy.

I tell you, friends, Aussies are the most wonderful people I have ever met my world travels.

More as word arrives,
Mary

Thanks guys - I'm home filled up with Morphine and a whole heap of other drugs to try and shake off this damned pain - I've been ordered to stay in bed for the next week so I guess you'll be hearing a lot more from me as I have a wireless internet lap top - well what else can ya do in bed?

I really appreciate the concern - the pain was so bad I really thought something disastrous was going on - but Morphine is a wonderful thing.....ok....I got a conspiracy thread to continue....see ya over there.

Thanks again everyone - especially to Silverglance and my daughter Lucy for getting me the help I needed.

Ben

Aw..Uck!
Acute sciatica is one of the most painful things you can have.
Try to not use your back for anything like bending, lifting, stretching. It's more difficult than you realize. Not to mention when you do try -it's like someone grabbed the nerves down your back and squeezed really hard.

I feel for you, Ben.
I'm so sorry you are going through this, during an otherwise very happy period of your life.

I hope you are doing better really soon.
Just relax and make it let go of you.
(easier said than done, I know)

Argh...I didn't see this post until now!

Feel better Ben. I had a back injury a year ago that caused a lot of pressure on my sciatic nerve. So, I can sort of identify with the pain. It's not fun!

But best wishes and speedy recovery.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes for Ben, and thanks Mary for starting this thread...

Here's the latest...

Ben is supposed to either be lying flat out in bed or standing up - he's not to sit up in a chair. We were invited to lunch at my brother's place today, and Ben didn't want to be left behind, so he came, and of course, sitting in a hard chair for a few hours hasn't done him much good. He's now lying in bed like Lady Muck with his coffee and his laptop pretending to be a soccer manager in a computer game! He has strong medication which knocks him about, so you may find some weird posts with funny typos coming from him this week!

We're scheduled to be getting married in a week's time but we're not sure if he'll be able to hobble down the aisle, and we're thinking he may even have to go back to the UK for medical treatment, so we're going to have to make a decision about the best thing to do. So this sciatica has really put a kink in our plans.

So that's the latest. Thanks again for your concern. Ben has worked out how to use the house phones as intercoms so now he buzzes us and he has Mary and I to wait on him whenever he's feeling peckish or thirsty! I think he's on a good wicket - I want sciatica too tongue.gif
