Well you might have seen my other thread - I'm doing a project on jesus, and am researching what non biblical sources say about him. I have been astounded! The Nag Hammadi library and gospel of Judas are incredible! But I am unsure how to put my arguement together [it's a feature article] and what points I should bring up. I was thinking to go Da vinci code, and propose that the early church eleminated various gnostic texts [such as gospel of mary etc] from the bible, in order to swing the balance in favour of males. I was thinking of arguing from the gnostic P.O.V that jesus' true purpose was not as a saviour, but as a liberator.
What y'all reckon? Anyone got any thoughts/ideas how to attack it? Thanks for any help, hopefully some interesting discussion will ensue! |

Perhaps you already found this out, but here is a clue for something interesting:
Jesus was called a fish. Look into Mesopotamian religion. They worshipped amphibian gods that where half-fish half-men. (They descended from the sky but lets not get into that )
During Jesus times many people worshipped these Gods, one sect had in fact was quite large in Roman society. I highly suspect that when people announced Jesus was a fish, they declared no less then that Jesus was one of the ancient Gods who created mankind. But doing so Jesus's followers managed to unite many religions in one. Interestingly the mesopotamian priests had a hat that looked like an opened fish mouth, exactly like the hat the pope wears.

What you read about Jesus today through the bible etc was largely determined by the first council of Nicea in 328ad - there were so many 'books' and stories about Jesus and some of them were 'contradictory' that a council of all the Bishops was called in Nicea in 328 - to cut this post short they basically read all the stories and threw out what they thought was junk and kept what they thought was 'cool' - that's why we have the bible in the form we have today and why there are other works which mention Jesus but are not in the bible...
It's them wot did it.... Ben |

Rome has given the Gentile world a false gospel, a false assurance, a false salvation message, a false atonement, a false Jewish Messiah, a false Christ, and a false representation of this "Jesus" The greatest story ever told is the greatest "lie" ever told, compliments of Rome.

I personally cannot 'enlighten' anyone. I can only forward information. How one chooses to receive that information is based entirely on their 'preparedness' It takes a 'seed' time to germinate. If the ground is not prepared beforehand the seed cannot take root. In what sense would you like to be enlightened? Hank. |

from the dead sea scrools someone narrated jesus planed his arest his crusifixion (probaly spelled that wrong) and his resurection. Plus that goes along with the recently found jesus told judas to betray him . So basicaly What i'm saying jesus staged his death. He never died.there was no dieing for sins as some believe. alot of the bible is fraud. so tell that to your class some kids will get mad and the teacher will cut you off half way thru so keep them happy if you wanna get a good. and 2 dont mention the da vinci code.

Cheers for the reply's.
I have decided to kind of base my arguement around, the early church trying to eleminate gnosticism as they wanted a male dominant society and orthodox christianity makes it easier to control the masses [if you don't believe it you go to hell etc] I am gunna have a heap of fun writing this!

Also, Paul was a Gnostic, but Rome would forge many of his letters in his name to make it appear that the authentic Paul is NOT Gnostic at all. 1st and 2nd Timothy are a prime example of the forgery. u know, my ex was church of christ and had a hard time following this. ever notice the similairity between venus and cupid and mary and jesus? it is as if rome forgot all other gods and in exchange substituted in the only ones they could understand. gods of love. mary and jesus just tooke their place. also the xmas tree is pagan. and the easter bunny (ever hear of fucking like rabbits) is of fertility...hence jesus coming back to life.
joke: a man decides to take his wife to israel on vacation. she says if they go there that they have to take her mother because she's never been out of the country. the 3 of them get there and his mother in law gets sick and dies. the funeral director says look "u can have her shipped to the states and buried for $6000 or u can have her buried here in israel for $250" .the husband says "i'll have her shipped to the u.s." the funeral director says" but that is $6000, u can have her buried here in the holy land for far less". the husband says, "well i heard that there was a man who lived here once and died a long time ago, then rose from the dead 3 days later. i just can't take that chance!" |
