Nice video.
Could it be ball lightening that is then struck or actually becomes regular lightning? |

Well lightning comes out of the earth into the clouds isnt it? (I heard somewere, and it wasnt 5 mins later i went to sleep, now its stuck up there >.<)
Maybe it could be a UFO, with the right charge, drags lightning out of earth and hits it. (The beam or what ever started at the ground, were the stems biggest) |

Maybe they use lightning as a jumpstart into some faster than light travel?

From a meteorological standpoint, it doesn't look like "ball" or "plasma" lightning, which in itself is only theoretical anyway. It could well be a hoax, or it could merely be a far-off tower that is "charged" by the impending lightning strike from the ground. Anyone who has been near a struck object usually at least feels this charge (your hair stands on end), and if you've ever seen anything get hit close-up, you may have seen it "glow" beforehand. It's really awesome and terrifying.

I, myself, have been indirectly struck by lightning twice and both times there was a slight glow but only for a fraction of a second. In this video the glow is there for several seconds before the lightning/ignited vapour trail/other phenomena 'strikes'. Its entirely true about hair standing on end ( head, arm, leg, etc hair all stood up and a little was singed afterwards  ) but it all happens so fast that all of the advice about feeling the charge start and getting as low as possible is crap because most people can't act that fast. |

Lightning rod towers however, can glow for much longer depending on the power of the bolt.
In the newly built estate i can see from my bedroom window, in the middle theres a large metal tower thing, I think it used as a extra energy source when the lightning storms come. It glows about that long now i think about it. They say get as low as possable because in some cases, you can actully feel the static building underneath you, and the lightning goes for the highest object with a positive (i think) charge. Also, laying on a rubber sheet will aid you, and then the lightning wont be able to strike that area , cant remember why though. |

I thought they worked just like every other tower but now that I've had a chance to process what you said... I can see the CN Tower (tallest freestanding building in the world) from my driveway and the lightning rod on top does seem to glow constantly during lightning storms. I wasn't saying that getting low is a bad idea, I was asying that the entire strike happens so quickly that an average person wouldn't have time to react. I know from experience. Plus who has a rubber sheet handy at any given time? Rubber doesn't actually avoid striking rubber. Rubber helps to ground out the electricity and doesn't conduct it as well as other substances. Technically nothing can prevent a lightning strike except avoiding storms. |

When they say lay down, i think it means when theres a storm over head and there no were to run for cover, since yeah, it is pretty much impossable to lay down before that lightning blows the clothes off your a**

It never blew my clothes off. I wish I could find a way to blow my clothes off all in one shot... Anyways... The first time i was struck, I was in the basement of my friend's house leaning against a woodfire stove (made of cast iron) and the antenna on the other end of the house was struck. It knocked me forward onto my face and I blacked out for about 25 minutes. When I came to I had been moved to the couch in the same room unable to feel or move my extremities and having spasms all up and down my back. The second time there weren't even clouds in the sky and once again I was leaning against something at the same house (yeah pretty dumb, I know). This time it was one of the columns supporting the overhang of the front roof. THey are made of concrete but aluminum sheaths it. This time it was so hot and dry that one of the coolest natural phenomena happened. Dry lightning struck the house and 'blew' me out into the front yard. This time I was out for less time but when I came to I was completely paralysed. In both instances, the effects eventually wore off, although I still have no feeling in the tips of my fingers and toes (which helps because until next september my day job has me working in a greenhouse which exclusively grown roses). Yay! A happy ending! |

the reason i thought it might be ball lightning is the fact that lightning seems to disapate it in the strike

I have personally seen ball lightning and I assure you it is not that. I also do not believe it to be any lens reflection either.
From the distance it does not appear to be more than a few hundred yards away. Hotherym Ball lightning is not theory. It is in fact very real and scientists have actually been able to recreate them in laboratories. |

Ball lightning is not theory.
Everything is a theory. And, yes, you can make "ball lightning" yourself. However, it has not been recorded in a natural setting, except by verbal or written reports. Unless something has happened since I was going to classes on meteorology, which is entirely possible. |
