I think levitation and flying in dreams is because you're traveling astral when you're asleep and dreaming.

Your spirit lifts out of your body and hovers over it, while you dream, at the same time.

With astral travel, you leave your body and enter the astral realm, which is the next closest dimension to us here in the physical world. The astral realm is actually all around us we just can't see it. The astral realm contains all our thoughts and emotions.
It is the place that we go to when we sleep. In our dream state we stay close to our physical body and we project emotional content from our subconscious mind. We are not conscious during this process.

Absolutely, and actually, it's more common for kids to have astral dreams.. lucid dreams, too.. I remember when I was a kid, I had a lot of dreams about flying and usually I knew that I was dreaming while doing it, too. I would make stuff happen for fun and in almost every dream, I would will myself to "different worlds".. sounds kinda crazy, I know, but kids are more open to that stuff, which explains why you had dreams similiar when you were young.

The young undesciplined mind.
Their minds are as flexable as their bodies.
I many times, wish I could have some of that back.

wow - that must be an amazing feeling cookiemonster smile.gif i tried years ago to learn to levitate after reading a book which said everyone has the ability....but nothing happened.
talking of dreams.......any comments on this? just after a close family member died 5 yrs ago, i had a very vivid dream...it was like a picture in my head, banks of brightly coloured flowers and a motorway in the distance....when i woke up i was compelled to draw it. a few days later my mum came round, told me of this dream she'd had of banks of flowers.....when i showed her my drawing she was gobsmacked - it was the same image that she'd had.

flying dreams are the best!! Even though I'm well into adulthood I still have them frequently. Usually they happen when I'm first dreaming of some bad guy chasing me or some similar nightmare. When this happens I'll then say to myself 'Oh yeah, I can fly' then the dream will turn good, the bad guy is soon forgotten and beautiful dream exploration begins.
I have lucid dreaming, always have, and didn't realize until a few years back that not everyone does. I think my flying dreams are a simple reflection of the way I deal with life. Not that I fly away from problems, but that I overcome them and never let them keep me down. Once a problem is dealt with, I toss it off my ship and forget them, I refuse to carry negative baggage. Maybe this is a secret to having the flying dreams, just let go of the negative in you life. Go ahead and grieve, get mad..whatever and then just toss it off. Ah..what do I know? Not much, lol. It's worth a shot though and believe me when I say this, letting go of that negative luggage? Feels like ahhhh..freedom! Who knows perhaps you'll fly at night all the time too.

ok - i have been looking on the net, there are a lot of references to the "illusion" and "appearance" of making things and yourself levitate, but this is just magic trickery. the nearest thing i can find to the book i had, is this.....it does in part explain some of the instructions towards self-levitation, but not fully. the one thing i do remember is that the ability to levitate is in harmony with the ability to do transcendental meditation - i wish i could find more info for you sad.gif

Wow, every bit of 'proof' in there has been scientificly explained. The jerk thing is when your brain sends an impulse because it think your going to repiratory depression, unable to move while falling asleep or waking up is sleep paralasys, felling like your floating after waking up is inner ear confusion, and feeling yourself awake outside of your body is lucid dreaming.

Just goes to show how misunderstanding causes things to be explained as unexplained.

Thanks Susie, I'm EXTREMELY grateful that you've gone to so much trouble to find out the title of this book for me! biggrin.gif As for The Science Of Self-Realisation, I actually have that particular book here at my own home. I'm aware of Srila Prabhupada and the Hare Krishna sect that he founded. Pretty cool guy he was, EXCEPT for his excessive use of the word 'rascal'! :rofl2:

Predator I'm not dizzy at all after a flying dream and during one it's not any imbalance or disorder that I am aware of, but also the sensation of the rest of your body being able to change position. It is not confused because you can perfectly steer it with thought in an orderly type of movement as well as body position (sitting, superman pose, prone, jumps of several meters high etc).
One can be in 2 different focuses at the same time in lucide condition. Once I opened my eyes because I could feel being in bed while also feeling that I was flying through my room. Then you don't see what you are experiencing which may cause the only disorientation while having a type of lucidity. In a flying dream your senses centers in your brain get detached from physical impulses because the body is at rest. I don't have any sleep paralysis at all or it does not get out of hand because when I know I'm awake I can perfectly move my body like I wake up from any sleep. I don't have ESP during flying dreams that I know of so it's perhaps not an OBE.
