In my opinion, reverse speech is harmless and meaningless. You can find any message anywhere, and easily interpret meanings into seemingly meaningless phrases. The examples listed are all poetically interpreted to fit something that is connected to that person. Many words sound alike when played backwards. Consonants can be exchanged very easily, and will all those potential words that sound the same but have totally different meanings, it's about as credible proof of subliminal messages as pixelated "faces" in photographs are of ghosts.

I have not heard of this before.
I see any words as just incidentals. I agree with you Drosophila, a pointless persuit. |

Pointless? More than likely, but I find it interesting to think about... I suppose I like things that seem eerie, but I really like the JFK commentary example at that site, its really eerie the way they slow down, speed up, reverse, and reverse back the examples.

I could see this, maybe, being helpful in voice or sound analysis.
That kind of usage would be useful. |

Google : Reverse Speech
and it will give you the background about David Oates...He was a frequest guest during the years when it seems everyone was listening to Art Bell...and played a lot of his tapes on the show. I heard they had a big blow out...his name isn't even listed as a guest anymore. There were rumors going around back then, that certain Rock groups were using it to send "subliminal" satanic messages on their records. Read the pro's and con's and decide for yourself. |

Read the pro's and con's and decide for yourself. Bill Hicks with regards to the Judas Priest trials: "A question that failed to come up during the trial, and that should have come up was.... what performance artists want their audience dead?!" |

In one case i do believe it, a song that had really audible spoken messages.
But that was probably an exception. |

the only one I know of is Fire on High by the Electric Light Orchestra on the Face the Music album. I believe it says something like "the music is reversable, but time is not. Turn back, turn back, turn back."

There is another nice one: Another bites the Dust by Queen.
In the song itself a reversed piano is heard, so this may be a hint that they did this. Using "backward masking" as this "speech reversal" is also called. When you reverse the chorus "Another one Bites the Dust" one could hear into it "Start to smoke Marihuana". Prince would be reputed to use it, when there was quite a lot to do about these reverse texts, about 1985 I remember that it was an issue in pop music when someone reverse played countless records. It is also a production trick used by Trevor Horn on a 12" of Propaganda an entire song is played backwards except for the lyrics. No backward text discovered, it is also a nice artistic play with sound. |

Thats exactly what it says. I love it for that. Had it as my voicemail message for a little while. |

check it out: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/stairway.php Were it not for the fact that I was reading along with that, I'd have only caught about three words and thats because I let my imagination run active for a bit. It's just someone else's interpretation of gibberish. Read the words, it doesn't even make sense... |

I appreciate the sharing bit. I just hate when people (I know it wasn't you) interpret literally nothign to mean something. Like last night the floor creaked while nobody as walking on it, it must have been a spirit, it couldn't have possibly been the fact that the hardwood floors just went in brand new this monday. See what I mean? Whoever came up with those reverse lyrics for Stairway to Heaven is sick in the head and should start taking meds, lots of them. When i listened to it backwards for the first time, I closed my eyes so I wouldn't read the words that are supposedly there. I heard 'my' 'too' and 'sweet' or at least something close enough to those words to be interpreted by my mind as those. With the words written there, the second time, I heard almost exactly what they said... Spooky...? Hardly...! |

check out this site: http://www.reversespeech.com/Simple_Examples.htm tell me what you think Well there are some neurological explanations for how and why the brain will distort speech. I am sure you are aware for example of dyslexia where someone will read words backwords or garble the sequence of letters they see. Speech reversal can be explained by lesions or tumours in the part of the brain governing language. Certain strokes and seizures and brain damage can cause it. It can be associated with people in certain stages of sleep or as a side effect of certain kinds of medication. I mean you can go yourself onto the web site and you will find conventional explanations. Then of course there is that area of behaviour no one can explain where people seem to be in a trance and speak an ancient language that they otherwise do not know or speak in a strange tonque or garbled sequence as if they are possessed and neurologists do not necessarily have an explanation - so I mean I guess it all depends like everything but speaking in tonque or backwords or in garbled sequence as well as being common in the paranormal world is also not unknown in the neurological one either. |
