Hi Everyone!

I know I'm starting this thread a day early, but it's almost baseball post-season time and I am so happy. Last night, the team I love, the Los Angeles Dodgers, got themselves a tie playoff spot when they beat their archrivals, the San Francisco Giants in San Francisco. It was a lovely game that ended whth the Dodgers going ahead from 2-2 on a nice hit by Olmedo Seinz and then, a wild pitch!

Here's the Dodgers official website:

http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/NASApp/m...dex.jsp?c_id=la

I know...the National League West is probably the least notable in baseball right now. But many of you know what it is like to love a particular organization and follow them through the decades, as I have done with the Dodgers. Every baseball club has remarkable, admirable things about it, colorful history and many fine members and wonderful, memorable moments. So, feel free to talk about baseball here.

But whomever we see in the League Playoffs and then, at the end of October, in the World Series, I am there, I am enjoying it and I'll bet many of you will be, too.

There's no game like baseball and October baseball is sheer delight.

Love,
Mary

I saw the Twins moved past the Tigers today, and won the Central Division, guess that means it will be Tigers vs. Yankees in the opening round of the playoffs...

I watched the Dodgers sweep San Francisco this afternoon and the Dodgers will be playing the Mets.

For some reason Mary, your thread makes me think of Kirk Gibson in 1988, I'm sure you remember that homer, right? wink.gif

Ah, Gibson...that was Oct. 15, 1988 ...lol, I looked it up...and here's a MLB site snippet about it. It's right up there with Curt Schilling's bloody sock, lol.

Thanks for bringing to mind a great Dodger memory, A Skep.

"...Gibson's limp-off home run was the first time a team had been trailing in a World Series game and homered to win in the bottom of the ninth. It was also Gibson's only at-bat of the entire Series. But it was enough, as the Dodgers rode the moment all the way to a World Series championship."

They used to have a link on the MLB site that played a vid of it. That Gibson homer, the Reds winning in '90, Cal Ripken breaking the ironman streak, and the earthquake during the Giants-A's series are the most memorable things I've seen in baseball during my lifetime.

EDIT: And on a personal note, the time I met Johnny Bench before a game at Riverfront in 1991, I even have an autograph from that meeting!!!

Hmmm...I say, go Twins! Wonderful ball club, I'd like to see them advance. I'll "Think Bratwurst", A Skep!

You met Johnny Bench? That's awesome. I met Bobby Gritch and once had a jaw with Eric Karros as we rode an airport parking lot tram...he knew I knew who he was, but I didn't say I knew who he was. An elderly lady on the tram asked him why his knees were skinned and he said, "oh, I was playing baseball".

Minnesota 96 66 .593

Oakland 93 69 .574

Now you know if you say that, St. Louis and Steinbrenner's Row will have banner post-seasons, A Skep....that's baseball voodoo...you must get some chicken bones and undo the curse immediately (like that one batter in the film, "Major League), lol!

Nah, just gotta out-pitch some one to win playoff baseball these days... No chicken bones needed, unless they are used to doctor the ball... wink.gif

Minnesota Twin vs Oakland As
Game 1: Barry Zito vs Johan Santana
This should be great one. 2 Hall of Famers.
I give the edge to Santana.
