I'm not sure where this would go, so I'll just put it here.

Do you believe in alternate dimensions? Is it possible to have two things (such as planets) that occupy the same point in time and space, but remain separate? Is possible that two dimensions might be so close as to overlap, e.g., that beings in one dimension might be able to interact with beings in the other, even crossover; or that the beings in each dimension might not realize that they are separate, that beings might believe they ALL inhabit one dimension? Imagine for a moment that this is true. In Dimension A: Aliens visit the planet and abduct or instruct people, Sasquatch haunts the woods, Mothman flies at night, and ghosts infest our houses. In Dimension B: None of these things are possible. Could this be why the 'believers' see evidence and 'nonbelievers' don't? I spoke to a perfectly normal guy who once told me he saw a flying saucer land in a field ... next to a busy highway: and nobody slowed down to watch. He said to his mom: "Hey, Mom! Look at that!" and she said in a bored voice "Yeah. It's a flying saucer." Later, according to him, she didn't remember the incident at all. Did he momentarily cross over? Was he delusional? He seemed to believe it. Was he just testing my gullibility? Was this a true story? I've heard weirder stories than that.

Are there ideas that exist outside of us, vibrations in the universe, that we pick up like radio waves? On a dark night, years ago, over a couple of beers, a friend of mine pointed to the wall and said something like this: "You see that wall? If I really wanted to, I could put my fist through that wall without damaging either my fist OR the wall. I could do this, you see, because the wall's not really there. There is no wall. I only think it's there. I believe it so strongly, that if I were to hit that wall right now, I would believe that I broke my fist, but if I could unbelieve it, if I could focus myself to see that the wall doesn't really exist, I could break the rules: I could put my fist through that wall, without damaging my fist and without damaging the wall, because my fist: it doesn't exist either. However, if I did that, you'd never know it. Life is like a big monopoly game. It has rules. It has rules because we give it rules. We all agree what the rules are: There are walls, and you can't put your fist through the wall. Likewise, monopoly has rules: wait your turn, don't steal from the bank, if you land on Parkplace, you pay out the wazoo. If you broke the rules, what would happen? One of several things: A) maybe everybody would start breaking the rules, in which case, it would no longer be monopoly! cool.gif everybody would ignore you and keep playing like you weren't even there. C) they'd kick you out of the game, tell you to play somewhere else. So you see, if I were to go outside and fly like superman, or put my fist through the wall, or do something else to break the rules, you'd never know it. You'd blank it out because it doesn't follow the rules. Or maybe I'd get kicked out of the game: sucked into another dimension where EVERYBODY breaks the rules. Or maybe, just maybe, you'd see me fly off like superman or put my fist through a wall, and you'd be inspired to do the same. And why? Because there is no wall."

And this was probably 12 years before Matrix, this guy said this.

Are we in different dimensions? Are weird things possible in your dimension? Have you ever crossed over from one side to the other? (I have, and it's very weird on the other side, let me tell you). What color is the sky in your world? Is it as blue as the sky over here? Are there walls where you live? We have walls too, but once there was this guy who told me something, and I kinda believe maybe there's a form of truth in it. He said: There is no wall.

If only the good people of Berlin had been told that some 50 years earlier....the world would have been oh so different eh?

Have you read of the recent theories on the multiverse idea?
There is serious ideas that there may be 10 to the 500th power parallel universes!!
The new super collider that is to go on line soon may offer more insight to this thoery.
The syndicated show SLIDERS, may not be so far fetched after all.

Well, consiousness can occupy the same point in time-space and yet remain separate.

Are you sure you mean dimension? Dimensions are the possible values of distance an object can have, for instance the third dimension has length, width and height.

I have seen the word used in the multitude of ways.

I believe they are refering to different dimension of space/time. Alternate realities, parallel universes & such.
What you are refering to is, dimensions of space.

Mr. E, it would do you well to learn about String Theory, and M Theory and quantum physics in general.

I'm just a laymen myself, but some of the answers you seek regarding overlapping dimensions and such may be found within these theories.

Granted these things are just theories, but if you want to learn about matter being in 2 places at the same time or solid matter passing through other solid matter or theories on dimensions, it's a good place to start.

I suggest reading a book called "The Elegant Universe," By Dr. Brian Greene. It's a good place to start.

Soul, then they aren't dimensions, they would be alternate realities. Dimension would be latin for 'measured out'.

Would not an altenate reality, be measured out differently, on terms of physical laws?

Is not a measurement, a quantum of something?

But it would not be defined by the fact that it is measured.
