Hi guys, well i have to say i been having really weird dreams.
This morning i woke up very very hung over then had a couple of glasses of water and a pain killer, then fell asleep. When i fell asleep i was really deeply under and i knew i was. The strange part of it was that when i was dreaming, i was dreaming 3 different things at once like there was 3 tv screens in front of me and i had three sets of eyes to watch them individually at the same time. The even stranger part of it was that i could follow all three of them at once, now my personality stops me from ever doing that, i cant multitask and i have difficulties with my concentration (dyslexic and dyspraxic). The even weirder part of it was that it wasnt about me in any of the dreams. I have had many of these dreams since the start of the month, im still trying to figure out why. Also you know when u get that feeling of knowing something was going to happen before it happens and when u see it happens it sort of shocks u. Every time i have these dreams and i wake up i always feel like i have to do something. I sometimes wake up in the morning with a lot of scratches around my front and back like i been scratching myself during the night, just weird. Anyone else been having dreams like this and have any advice for me to well get a good nights rest for once? |

Simple answer is: dreams can often be weird, and when you have been drinking they usually is even weirder

"This morning i woke up very very hung over then had a couple of glasses of water and a pain killer, then fell asleep."
Comment no.1: Drinking alcohol of course dehydrates you-it is also a depressant-so it can have a direct effect on you sleep-lack of oxygen to the brain from dehydration make induce visions of anxiety or urgency-as well, you mentioned you took a pain killer. Again depending on the pain killer-particularily with a dehydrated body it can also effect what and how you dream especially if it had caffeine in it which a lot of head ache medication does. If it was aspirin or an equivalent analgesic it can effect your blood flow to the brain which along with your dehydration can also cause you to have dreams of urgency, anciety, agitation, or themes of feeling unsettled-what I would also tell you is that alcohol, dehydration, and analgesics effect the ability to get into a deep sleep which probably suggests why you are sort of able to remember your dreaming. "When i fell asleep i was really deeply under and i knew i was." Comment 2: actually no that would have been the feeling you may remember but if you were in fact in a deep sleep pattern you would not remember it, if anything it sounds like you were in a lighter stage of sleep. "The strange part of it was that when i was dreaming, i was dreaming 3 different things at once like there was 3 tv screens in front of me and i had three sets of eyes to watch them individually at the same time." Comment 3: multi-thoughts in your dreams are very typical-when we dream its like being on the inter-net and surfing and finding ourselves popping from window to window one thought flowing from another and another like branches on a tree - what you are describing is cognition or in boring language simply the way we think.... "The even stranger part of it was that i could follow all three of them at once, now my personality stops me from ever doing that, i cant multitask and i have difficulties with my concentration (dyslexic and dyspraxic)." Comment 4: In dreams, you would not be dyslexic etc., the same way a paralyzed person would dream of themselves being healthy and walking or running and blind people who had sight and lost it, dream in visions. I would make the same comment about dyspraxia (motor coordination disorders). By the way dyslexia, dyscalcula and dyspraxia are all closely linked and neurologists are now centering in on the specific parts of the brain they think are effected. In a few more years they may get to the point of figuring out what kind of medication they might be able to use to help with these conditions. What some speculate is that certain chemical levels in the brain just need to be readjusted to deal with these kinds of conditions-but when you dream you won't studder, have Tourette's syndrome, etc. -if you do dream of a specific condition, it very rarely is the one you have in real life. "The even weirder part of it was that it wasnt about me in any of the dreams." Comment 5: we don't always dream about ourselves, and even when we do dream about ourselves we may not even know it as how we symbolize ourselves and others in dreams can be quite tricky. "I have had many of these dreams since the start of the month, im still trying to figure out why." Comment 6: as a general rule, if you keep dreaming the same dream or same kind of dream, it may be you are preoccupied with something going on in your life that you are trying to resolve-so you might want to consider if there is anything going on in your life that is causing you to dwell on it and be unable to move on from-it doesn't have to be anything life shattering....maybe it is something really bothering you or maybe its a nuisance kind of thing... "Also you know when u get that feeling of knowing something was going to happen before it happens and when u see it happens it sort of shocks u." Comment 7: Deja Vu is a very common sensation if you are dehydrated, have taken analgesics, or have had alcohol or any kind of depressant. "Every time i have these dreams and i wake up i always feel like i have to do something." Comment 8: see comment 6, sounds like you are restless and the feeling you are describing is restlessness or anciety or uncertainty or agitation or worry, all akin to something inside you not being resolved or balanced or clearly answered and this feeling like you have to do something means, you still have not figured it out yet, that is to say, how to resolve what it is bothering or preoccupying you. "I sometimes wake up in the morning with a lot of scratches around my front and back like i been scratching myself during the night, just weird." Comment 9: this can result from shallow agitated sleep-in certain levels of sleep we are more likely to kick and turn and scratch adn even bite ourselves, pull out hair, pinch ourselves, twist our arms and legs into uncomfortable positions, etc. "Anyone else been having dreams like this and have any advice for me to well get a good nights rest for once?" Comment 10: actually you have not described your dream just sensations while you have been trying to sleep. My suggestion is and I am serious-stop drinking alcohol before you go to bed. Make sure you do not eat at least three hours before you go to sleep. Drink lots of water. Avoid caffeine, salt, msg or sugar at least 4 preferably 5 hours before bed. If you find you are staying awake before you sleep or are having fitful sleep this will all help. Also believe it or not a glass of hot milk will release some enzymes to help you sleep. Herbal teas can help such as Valerian root tea, and again I am serious, try some white turkey meat and lots of fruit when you do eat. Also if there is something that is causing you tension or bugging you in life, well just remember your mind works on that kind of thing while you sleep trying to figure out what your next move is in resolving it. Also a lot of this has to do with your age. As a general rule people between the age of puberty and their early twenties have fitful sleep for the simple reason their bodies are changing including hormone levels as the frontal lobe of their brain explodes in size. At the best of times during this age, you may stay up all night, sleep all day, have night-mares, etc., and it may seem all whacked but that would actually be quite normal. Your descriptions sound quite accurate and typical so don't worry. Unless you are a raging alcoholic and drug addicted I would say just try sleep more then 6 hours a night and give yourself proper time to wind down before you sleep. Believe it or not watching t.v. and then suddenly going to sleep also effects how you sleep because of the effect watching t.v. has on your brain too. That is why they say its bad to have a t.v. in your bed-room although a lot of people do! |

I've replied/posted about dreams in this catagory a few times and explained that I take "sleeping pills" before bed. Most of those times were just the unisom type things and sometimes excedrine pm (basically, anything w diphen). But for the past few weeks we've been using only Melatonin, a 'bedtime' herbal 'dietary supplement.' Works well, provides easy, comfy sleep without the dry mouth/constant urination/trippyness of diphen products. ANYWAY, my point that pertains to this thread is that these Melatonin create extremely weird and lifelike dreams that surpass anything experienced on diphen. Dreams you come back to after short waking periods, dreams that stay with you thru the day, dreams that make you sleep-talk, etc. I used to be fine without sleepieness-helpers, but my living situation/work sched depends on them atm. Nowadays its only herbs tho, which are enhanced by daily vitamns and St.John's.
This is not to say I haven't had ooooout there dreams w/o them; I have. But, think about your pre-sleep activities including food and experiences such as tv, phone convos, work, etc. |
