What do you guys think about this issue. I think it's completely insane. I mean don't these retards think before they pass legilature? If you ask me, I think it may just be a ploy: The big business companies pay the government a lot of money to make it seem like they're doing something, even though a crappy fence is going to keep out illegal aliens. Even if they do installl the fence, it only covers 1/3 of the border.

Crafth, you haven't heard of this yet? The U.S. can install fences along the mexican border, a stupid act if you ask me.

I agree, what a waste of time and money to put up a fence.

I don't think that's a smart idea concidering the state of the states.
First they build fences around what's left of the native Americans and now they want a fence around the whole nation...:headscrat
America seems to me a nation that wants to rule the world.
From behind a fence appearantly... Which is strange.

I think it's hilarious when these militia-type wannabes (Minutemen) and Republicans demand we have to "close the border." No shit, the border is closed and it's illegal to cross it. There are already fences and the US Border Patrol utilizes the technology and force they can to enforce the already-closed border. Here's an idea: Fund the US Border Patrol to do their job. Don't waste money on a ridiculous fence. The bill doesn't even specify when or where the funding comes from...

There are ways a few might enter, but believe me, making a fence that will block out (or in) people is very possible.

A fence slows you down. It's a physical obsticle that makes it hard to get into the country fast and hide yourself before the border patrol gets you. A good method is to have multiple fences, with maybe a dirt fence (a field of regularly raked dirt that will show signs of crossing) in between. Of course obervation towers that are operated around the clock are needed anyway. And with dogs to the border patrol units (they have dogs and towers, right?) and you're up and running with a near-impregnable wall. And yes, that would cost lots of money. But it's feasible. Russia made it happen. The entire country is fenced in! They also have electronic sencors on an inner fence, devided into sections so that if anything touches the fence, that section will be investigated within minutes by a border patrol.

People can just jump over the fence, dig holes, whatever. And besides, it only covers 1/3 of the border, so they could just go around it. And sure, the russian wall might make a good point, if you don't consider all the OTHER walls that haven't worked:

The Berlin wall

The great wall of china

Pink Flloyd's the Wall

American wall (coming soon)

There are other ways we could stop illegal immigration, such as companies like Wal-mart and others to stop hiring illegal immigrants, which is the only reason we have illegal aliens. I mean my god, it's like legislators have a record on a turntable full of BS playing in their head, and they just drop the needle on whatever random crap they think of.

Cant you just rip a fence down if its in your way? Even if its electrified or something dumb, All you need is a pair of wirecutters if its metal, and if its wood, a little petrol and fire and you can take the whole thing down.

A fence will help the problem but it's not going to solve it. They will find new ways to get in.

I have seen video of the existing fence - there are dranage canals under it about 5 feet deep. All they have to do is walk under and right through - saw that on a video

This is nigh impossible when using the same protection as the Russian fence. Border patrol will spot them and pick them up in minutes.

(Spyro;298618)
And besides, it only covers 1/3 of the border, so they could just go around it.

That's why they want to build more fencing isn't it?

(Spyro;298618)
And sure, the russian wall might make a good point, if you don't consider all the OTHER walls that haven't worked:

The Berlin wall

The great wall of china

Neither are comparable. The Berlin wall was a single wall in the middle of a city. People who actually made it over could take quick refuge. The great wall of China was not specifically ment to keep civilians out, but invading armies.
And well, the border between Russia and Norway is the border with the biggest seperation of wealth in the world. Norway is also a member of the Schengen agreement, that grants a person free passage through many countries in Europe without the neccesity to show a passport. In other words, it's a very attractive border to get across with people or drugs. So IMO the border is comparable to the one between the US and Mexico.

I agree to some extent. A proper fencing should greatly reduce illegal immigration (I'm not familiar with the current estimated numbers of people getting in via the border directly). But it would cost as well.

The Berlin wall did work. 244 people made it across. In 35 years or so. You think thats all they wanted across? No wall is perfect but it certainly cuts down.

By the way..the key difference also is that the berlin wall was designed to keep people IN..this wall is to keep people out.

Not that I agree with it.

You can cut fences, you can tunnel under them, you may even be able to climb over them. But that does not detract from the fact that they are effective. A fence will reduce the influx of people into America across the southern border. Even if it only partially covers the border. It reduces the number of access points through and thus makes patrolling the border easier. Tunnels will quickly be discovered and filled in, holes in the fence will soon be repaired.

Uhm. Thats what I was saying. ONLY 240 or so people made it over the Berlin wall.

Personally, I dont think it should go up because of the image, the message.. it projects. But I can see both sides.

A fence isn't worth it, and it isn't a solution.
