I don't know where this goes, so I'll let the mods put it where it belongs.

Astrology is so stupid! As if lumps of dirt floating around clouds of gas have anything to do with our lives. Please don't tell me anyone here actually believes in this crap. And for those that do, take this into consideration: If you went to mars, you wouldn't have your crappy constellations anymore.

I don't believe in astrology either. I'm not calling anything stupid though.
I always used to think that it is used as sort of formula to calculate probability, or even possibilities for the outcome of someones life.

What i do believe is that 'some lumps of dirt floating around clouds of gas' do have affect on each other and the life on them.

You say craft that you don't belive in it, but your statement at the end confuses me? And no, stars trillions of miles away don't affect us. If one of those stars went supernova, I think it would look cool, but it won't affect my personal life.

The kind of influence i'm talking about are things like gravity, radiation, those kind of things. There is some influence. Even a supernova far away can send out radiation that hits the earth after a long journey through space.

Predicting peoples life by the place they're born and the position of the stars and planets is something completely different.

Good point you have there, but how does this affect my personal life? I took a look at a horoscope site (I'm apparentaly some crab wit nuclear retardation)
and posted it here:

You could find that that you’re inclined to get a little fretful over cash matters today especially if your current plans happen to stretch your budget a little too much. Take some time out to go over what you have and what you can afford in order to bring peace of mind!

Notice how it says it "could" so if its wrong, that's okay. Tell me how a star exploding affects my "fretful cash matters". I don't have fretful cash matters. Oh wait that's right, it said I COULD be Fretful about my cash matters, so its okay.

It doesn't.
Maybe string theory could explain astrology? It says that everything in the universe is connected, so if a star explodes, maybe it's connected to your bank-account?

Dude, Astrology is basing your life on star constellations. Like I said, if you went to mars, there wouldn't be the same constellations. String theory, I don't know about that.

Those constellations are so far away that a short distance to mars hardly wouldn't make any difference.
But don't get me wrong, i still don't believe in astrology. But i believe in a certain interconnectness between the things in the universe, just not that one can predict the future of an individual with that.

In theory it could. The problem with that is that astrology doesn't "work". People only think it "works" because the human mind is so deeply inclined to see patterns that aren't actually there.

Approach horoscopes with just a touch of skepticism, and it's easy to see that it's just vague nonsense.

I agree.
There are, let's say about half a billion people with the same starsign. If astrological predictions would be true, all those people would lead more or less the same lifes.

Astrology is also based on a geocentric universe.

It`s just entertainment plain and simple.

I wonder if astrology would tell me my life sucks right now?

And some of us were converted to skepticism by the reasonable, polite, and well formed arguments of others.

Ack! :blush2: The agony of making my reaction in the form of polite gratitude for the compliment, or in self-humbling denial! Darn you, Kelly!

Astrology has brought fun and entertainment to millions and lined the pockets of countless charletains.

I once talked with a college professor whom I respected much and I said, "astrology's crap, right, because how could the planets affect our personality?"

She looked at me with intelligent seriousness and said, "But what if we choose the moment when we are born?"

I nodded and smiled, because how can you make any headway if someone has a nutty view like that?

Oh well,
Mary
