Hey guys, it's been a while but I'm back - hopefully better than ever!

I've been diagnosed with chronic depression and my doctor has prescribed Zoloft to ease the chemical imbalance in my head. I've only just started on it and it has yet to kick in, so I still feel pretty messed up. I normally smoke a bit of weed to help me sleep and to cope with the fucked up feelings, but I'm a bit worried now that it is going to have an adverse reaction with the Zoloft.

I guess I just want to find out: Does anybody know of any bad reactions between the two substances? Any information would be much appreciated smile.gif

Sad to hear you're feeling bad, man sad.gif
I don't know about zoloft.
All i know is that smoking pot makes me depressed in the long run, just because i stop living, i stop developping myself. It's like parking your life on the side-line beeing stoned.

But can't you just ask your doctor? He should know and he must keep profesional secrecy.

Anyway, sorry i can't help you more than this, mate. Good luck and try to find the beauties of life, because there's alot of them smile.gif

Cannabis does not increase serotonin levels to an ammount that would cause an adverse reaction with an SSRI (like Zoloft), so any interaction wold be negligable.

Is the pot prescription?

Self prescribed, I guess you could say. wink.gif

I only smoke enough to relax before bed, and to calm me down after a shit day so I can focus and be creative. I've never been one for getting totally baked, I view psychedelics (pot is an extremely mild form) as learning tools - not recreational drugs.

I'm leaning towards not smoking weed while I'm on this stuff, just to be safe. I don't know how well I'll cope but I guess what doesn't kill me can only make me stronger, eh?

Thanks everybody for your advice - I have faith that everything will be okay...

Zoloft or Weed dude take your ONE pick cause if you end up taking both medicines you relley mess up some shit 'upstairs'....I know this cause I have tried smoking weed and taking anti-depression med. All I'm saying here is why do both when either one by itself is suficent in my honest opinion that is...and for the record PRED you have no freaking room to tell someone THC has no significant changes in serotonin levels on top of Zoloft. I'm sure you have more sense than your last post in this thread otherwise I pitty the fool.

dumbstruck and stoned in a valley,
Austin

Hello. Please do not smoke grass if you are on an anti-depressant!!! he active ingredient in marijhuana THC does NOT I repeat does NOT work well with zoloft. In fact the combination can not only increase your depressive symptoms but create psychotic reactions.

Mixing alcohol or marijhuana with it is very dangerous. Please don't.

Weed these days is very strong and is mixed with various chemicals, unlike the solid pot, I have a friend who has smoked weed for 3 years and he has a memory like a fish! I would suggest ease up on the good stuff maybe a cup of herbal tea instead.

OK, 1st of all, I have bad feelings towards rx mental drugs; I've tried all kinds of stuff including lexapro, klonipin, abilify, zyprexa, ambien, trazadone, seroquel, ativan and probably a few others I don't remember. All i use now is multivitamins and st. john's wort. How weed mixes, I can't tell you, as I've only ever done other substances while on those rx's. I did read an article on shroomery.com about a 125 yr old woman who smoked weed every day and contributes it to her long health. No matter what you play with, be wary of serotonin syndrom.

Ok, you're freakin' me out! Please explain...

The only reason I sought medical advice in the first place is because I came pretty close to doing something very bad to myself. It scared me so much that I decided to do whatever it takes to get better, even if it means submitting to some pharmaceutical poison-peddler! If I could find some other way I would go there. I just didn't think I had the luxury of time, as I was spiralling down pretty quickly.

Dude, I think that's just some of the propaganda. There were studies in Jamaica back in the 70's that found that people who smoked weed every day for up to fourty years were just as healthy and functional as people who didn't. I think that the 'tar in weed' thing is just something the government cooked up to make your parents think it was really bad for you...

There is a chemical in weed that actually prevents lung cancer (see New Scientist website) so as far as that's concerned, don' worry. As for taking Zoloft and smoking, you might want to switch to a different SSRI like Lexapro, which is somewhat less potent. I take Lexapro and smoke weed daily and I have a great life now, good job, nice girlfriend... all those things that make a person happy.

The only adverse reaction I've noticed is an increase in 'lavage' ie. mucus production increases when on SSRIs, so you might feel a bit flemmy! lol

Seriously, play it by ear. If the weed makes you feel worse then stop smoking it. I have not noticed any adverse effects, aside from the munchies, which happens...

I am a full supporter of 'Better living through chemistry', which most people don't understand or agree with. However, it worked for me.

I thought they were pulling Zoloft. Zoloft will mess your head up worst. At least from I was told. You know Zoloft is in the same family of drug as extacy. At least that is what i was told. All I know is that when I was on it, I would hallucinate and black out. stay away from it. Find another doctor and get a second opinion. Is your doctor a license psychiatrist? if not, Go see one. My Medical doctor prescribed me Zoloft and when I told my shrink this, he felt the Doctor had no right to treat me for depression. See a specialist. Zoloft should be pulled. Lots of people are commiting suicide on it.

btw.. the same chemcial Marijuana creates in your mind to give you hallucinations (as does LSD) is what those drugs prevent your mind from creating. People who have issues create these chemicals naturally. So, smoking weed with the drug is kind of pointless. I think Marijuana causes Endorphins and the drug is sort of an anti endorphin. I think I got that right.

Whoever seeks medical advice from this kind of forum is a lost cause in the first place, Ben.
