People all over the world beat thier wives, husbands and children, only difference is that they admit it openly.
But don't get me wrong, i do certainly not agree with the way muslims treat thier women, but when it comes to this... Is the 'western world' so much better?

No not really, in fact we are probably worse at least theres an amount of openness being given there. and its hopefully only a small minority that actually believes it is right to do such a thing. In the western world we have laws protecting women.. or well punishing the wrong doers lets face it court injuctions are a waste of paper .. the kind of partners who want to cause harm have .. a) already done the damage physically emotionally and phsycologically.
are not put off by threats of court orders or the court orders themselves.. all they do is mean when the person comes to yor house threatening and maybe getting in and treating you badly is mean the police can come get them take them away rap their knuckles.. send them on their way so they can come back a week later and terrify you and your kids. yeah.. right.. meh.. here the violent partner or ex-partner hides . they cover up.. know one knows till very often the damage has been done. Its still such a taboo subject . women.. men . don't want to admit it happens.. its shameful. weak.. all the rest of those negatives.. it's hidden under the carpet.. people turn a blind eye.. at least the muslims that speak on that clip are open and maybe honest about it.. maybe its easier to handle when its known to be going on?..

Umm Kind of. Women in America and other western nations Fight back without the fear of being stoned to death by society for violating the laws is Islam. It's the whole religous thing that makes it bad. Because it sets laws into place and people are taught from childhood to accept this as the norm. This isn't a person losing his temper and Smacking his wife upside the head. This is teaching you the proper way to lay down the opressive law that they impose on their women. Big difference.

We are looking at a frozen moment in time. Years ago these beatings where ok and these rules were cut down on it. Now they are out of date and look barbaric.

where there is respect, there is equality, therefor no beatings. And if a man and woman love and cherish each other, holding that partner as a part of themselves, why would a sane person inflict violence on themselves?

To consider that a man (or woman) has the right to inflict violence within a marriage is to state than one is worth more than the other. Such an attitude is not a true mariage (partnership), but is defacto a master/servant relationship.

And besides, my wife would use a skillet on my head while I slept, so it wouldn't be too smart.

Beer Maiden, do not teach my wife any of that. She took a cooking class and I had three months of tofu and soy crapola. She took a fashion class of some sort and I had to wear shirts that made me look like that guy on 'Knight Rider'. Hell, her practicing this could get me killed!
