Does anyone remember the first episode of sightings? They showed a gold disk that they claimed was berried under a crop circle and it was never mentioned again.

Dear yldii;

Welcome to the forum! I hope your visits here are enjoyable.

Yes I remember the first episode of the program 'Sightings.' I have a video copy of it along with probably every episode of 'Sightings' that was aired.

I just finished producing a DVD for a fellow in England that included the segment you are referring to. If you would like I will mail you a copy. Send me your reply by private message.

The case you are referring to was discussed in Volume 1, Issue 4 edition of 'International UFO Library Magazine.' Starting on page 22 the article is entitled 'The Pictogram and the Plate.' It was written by Michael Hesemann.

The article went into great detail and discussed the pictogram (crop circle) that was discovered by joggers in the early hours of July 22, 1991 at Grasdorf, Germany. It was 300' long by 150' wide and covered an area of 45,000 square feet. The whole structure resembled a Scandinavian rock painting of a "Chariot of the Sun," a sacred symbol of the ancient Northern Germans and a symbol for the "Heavenly Chariots" of the Nordic gods.

Tim Shunemann of Goslar measured the pattern on July 24 and reported:
The circles were nearly perfect.
The longest straight line of the pattern was exactly in an east-west direction.
The edges were clearly cut; the change from standing to lying stalks was abrupt.
The circles had nice and symmetric spiral patterns.
The stalks were flattened in a clockwise direction and not broken.

Members of the research group EFODON measured radioactivity with a Geiger-Muller Counter. The result: the pointer deflected many times with a maximum of .737 mikrosievert/h - 76% higher than the prescribed maximum for workrooms - then fell back. Normally this is impossible because radioactivity is constant.

The formation is located immediately next to the B444, a busy street, almost impossible for hoaxers to have stayed there for very long undetected. When a promenader (policeman?) passed the field at 11 p.m. nothing unusual was seen. At about 1:30 a.m. Christian Fiedler, from Grasdorf, saw an orange-colored, pulsating, flashing light hovering over the area and flying to and fro.
At 2 a.m. other witnesses heard a strange "whooping" sound with intervals similar to but louder and duller than a helicopter.

The owner of the field, Werner Harenberg, after witnessing all the interest in his field, started to ask for an entrance fee of about one pound and ordered one of his farm workers, a Turk named Chemal Kucuk, to watch the field and collect the money.

On August 2 someone with a metal detector alerted Chemal that he had detected metal in three of the circles of the design (the only circles that were semi-enclosed with a half-crescent design). The discoverer asked Chemal to ask the owner for permission to dig at these locations.

At a depth of two feet they discovered at each location a heavy 10- to 12-inch diameter metal plate fully covered with dirt and soil. The discoverer, calling himself Mr. Hase showed the three discs to the local press and then together they went to a local jeweller.

They discovered that the plates were made out of very pure metals, one of gold, one of silver and the third of bronze. The silver was of higher purity than sterling. The gold was so-called "altgold", a gold of the highest purity. The gold plate was illegally sold by Mr. Hase to the jeweler for a few hundred thousand Deutschmark and was subsequently melted down. The other two remaining plates were also sold but not melted down and so were available for testing.

The results of these tests are attested to by the German Federal Material Inspection Authority:
The silver plate consists of the purest silver with traces of iron less than 0.1%.
The other is of a copper/tin alloy with 10-15% tin, 1% nickel and traces of iron, less than 0.1%.

Although these results are not highly unusual, an understanding of peoples' greed tends to rule out a hoax, as the plates are much too valuable to have been donated for a mere joke. The ground was too hard for any undiscovered digging before or at the time the pictogram appeared.

Did I fail to mention the most astounding feature of these plates? Each plate bore the exact representaion of the pictogram design that they had been discovered beneath!

Excellent post SC Russ - forgive me if I go off at a tangent however - it sounds to me like it was a cleverly conceived promo for something (or elaborate hoax) or we have become so secular that the significance of Gold Silver and Bronze (circles) has been lost? - You see the 'Coming of the kingdom' in biblical terms can be worked out by reference to Gold, Silver and bronze 'Bands' is the translation but 'circles' could just as easily be the translation - I will find the appropriate chapter as I can't recall from off the top of my head - sounds to me like some religious group wanting to plant the seed of the idea that the 'end times' have actually been reached......

Dear oskar,

I'm sure the photos of the pictogram in the field and on the plates can be located on the web but I was not able to do so in the limited time I spent searching for them. Perhaps someone who reads this post can locate them and either show them to us or give us the link to where they can be found.

Meanwhile, I scanned the pictures from the article I referred to in the post and would be happy to send you the jpg file if you will simply E-mail me at:

russcrawford-sc@peoplepc.com

I am not computer-savvy enough to know how to transfer that file to a post on this site. Perhaps you or someone who reads this would like to assist me.

Dear Oskar,

Here is a scanned picture of the crop circle formation and corresponding plate I cut from the magazine. Sorry it's taken me so long to bring it to you but I just learned how to transfer images into posts.
