A funny thing was thrown in my lap today, and I would like some input on what to say. There are some folks in my town that know I am interested in UFOs: it's hard to have any kind of secret in a small rural town, and while I'm not taking out ads in the paper, I don't keep my opinions secret either.

Anyway, a person I know asked me about UFOs. I found it strange as he had never before shown much interest in the subject, and I thought at once that he had seen one. As you can guess, I was drooling to find out. smile.gif But that wasn't it.

It seems that there are a lot of rumors in his church about the the fact that a catholic official has introduced the idea that the church would 'accept ETs as part of God's plan'. At least, that was what I understood him to be saying. He even mentioned that the church has some scientist that are looking for where these beings come from.

Now this is about as far from 'good reporting' as I could be, and I hesitated to bring it up in this forum. This is rank gossip, and I know it. Still, this is someone I would like to be able to give some sort of answer to. And it has taken my interest in a way. It would be a major step towards acceptance of things like the Disclosure Project if the Vatican were to come out in favor of believing in ETs and UFOs.

Unfortunately, I have no ties or interest in any form of organized religion, and no clue where to seek answers on the basis for such a rumor. I mean I doubt that I can call the Vatican and ask to speak to the Department of Off World Studies.

I did ask him if this had been mentioned by the local priest, as that is the highest authority that there is in this town. He said that the priest told him that he would ask someone, but then it was never mentioned again. This person was seeking answers, and I really have no info.

I do find it oddly amusing that the average low level person in the Catholic church would ask such a thing, unless it is a bigger concern to their faith than I thought.

Could I get some ideas from the forum? Maybe some material that might relate to the churches position on UFOs, if it is known? I can tell him what we on this forum think, and give him some secular resources, but due to his convictions, anything the church has would be more relevent.

Thanks.

“The Lord certainly did not limit His glory to this small Earth. On other planets other beings exist who did not sin and fall as we did."
- St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (1887-1968), canonized June 16, 2002

Hope it starts you off in the right direction?

I think everyone, including the mod who moved this, missed the point here. This isn't a religous issue in the sense that this is a world power in it's own right. The Vatican is a government. I may be pretty dumb about religions, but I do know that much.

What I was trying to find, was factual references to the Vatican, and their postion on UFOs, and if their were any recent announcements by them on the matter. I'm sure my friend won't take to me quoting the bible to him, as he is aware of my lack of participation in any church.

Thank you for the point towards St Padro Pio. Anything more current than a recent saint who died before the first small step was taken for mankind in '69?

I'm sure that my keyboard will be struck with a Holy Bolt for asking, being in this den of the faithful as I am on this thread, (you might have noticed that I have never posted here as I avoid religous conflict like the plague),smile.gif but is there any current discussion amongst the christians and muslims and hindu about the moral implication of contact?

And folks, please be easy on any preaching to me, I have too many "Born again" fundementilist relatives. I can't take much.

Hmmm maybe I did miss a point? But you're title isn't about the Vatican? It's about Catholics and UFO's? At AU we've never entertained ANY UFO discussion of ANY kind in the UFO section if religion is involved anywhere for some years because we saw where it led lol.....just like you we got overwhelmed by religious fundies and couldn't take much more....

It should also be noted that because of (arguably) Msgnr Balducci - the following happened - with its over 1 Billion faithful, the RC Church is indeed the largest religious community on Earth. Note that since the first Balducci-statement also H.H., the Dalai Lama (for Tibetan Buddhism), several Jewish rabbis in Israel and, in 2001, the Muslim authorities of Turkey followed with positive statements on this subject. Therefore it can be said that UFOs are not only “no problem” for the largest Christian church, but also for other world religions.

Hardly 30 year old information and a good starting point for a Google search....

See, this was what I was after: every major religion is aware of this 'tide' and responding. That's something I can use. I do want to help my friend, and with more than just a few bible quotes.

Does anyone know of the 'Churche's' stand on the matter? Is there an authoritive response from the Catholic Church as regaurds UFOs? Is there anything in print?

And so much thanks to you all for not overwhelming me in religious rhetoric.
I am not without my view on the Creator, but as an aboriginal American, of only a small group, it is our practice to hold the relationship between man and "god" as a personal affair.Thank you all for not putting me in the position of debating the merits of my concepts.

Each entity of creation must find truth for themselves, else no truth is valid .

You may wish to ask the Holy See personally. Below is a link to the Vatican. I too, am interested in the Vatican’s response to an up-front honest question of this Nature… ~rore

Thanks rore. I did just that, and my request for a position is winging it's way through cyberspace as of this moment.(You know, somehow I hadn't thought of the RC Church using the internet. I expected them to send out decrees on vellum. smile.gif Shows where I find my own perception of organized religion.)

Now we wait and see if they'll even answer.

Well due to Catholics like Forestall and JFK and JFK Jr being killed by
the UFO conspiracy, I would think that Catholics would say that
UFOs are bad.

Ed Just noticed your Vatican involvement. They lost touch with the world with Galleleo
and not being privy to Tesla or any super weapon development by Germany or any ET
knowledge I think they have no answer.
