http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/05/27/ufo.park.ap/index.html

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070526/ap_on_.../ufo_theme_park

"The park, dubbed Alien Apex Resort, could open as early as 2010. The city has received a $245,000 legislative appropriation for initial planning, but the park would be privately built and managed. Requests for proposals will be advertised next month.

The proposed park initially will cover 60 to 80 acres with room to expand to 150 acres. It will feature other rides and attractions, including an exhibit hall with information on scientific exploration of the universe."

This kind of bothers me.

It's one thing to do the festivals every year it's another to turn it into an amuzement park. The city is just using the town for their own greedy benefits.

It's become where it is no longer about the truth of what happened in 1947 but rather about the profits.

I was going to go to the festival this year but now that the city has taken it over there was no point in going. There were no lectures at the museum and every single thing they had, you had to pay.

This is a real disappointment.

Well there are lectures but they are by people I've never heard of before. And for every lecture it's a cost of like $10. Tom Carey and Don Schmitt weren't even scheduled this year.

Let me quote something from the new Roswell book I bought. It pretty much talks about this in a small segment:

"The comparision of Roswell to mythology is intend to complete the damage control left unfinished by Project Mogul and the wooden crash dummies. Plainly stated, we contend that this most recent tactic on the part of the federal government is, in reality, explaination number five: The Roswell Incident never happened. It's all folklore created the UFO buffs, a number of so-called witness opportunists, and the very city of Roswell itself to create a tourist attraction.

It just goes to show that many people think that belief in ufos and aliens is on the same page as fairies and unicorns.

This is ridiculous.....I shudder to think that commercialization promises to further marginalize a serious avenue of study.

It's not just about profits, it's also a way to turn the idea of aliens and UFO's into a joke. If an individual is exposed to the idea that something must be taken as a joke and not taken seriously, then they will always respond to it in that way. Due to this, tons of people will read about UFO sightings and alien abductions and only scoff at it. :bs:

Yeah that too.

It's such a terrible thing as to what they are doing.

They're making profits from it and they are trying to bury the whole thing into the mythology catagory. This is only helping others to disprove the entire thing. And by turning it into a [cruel] joke it's as if they are putting the EBEs and UFOs into the Santa Clause and Easter Bunny catagory as well.

It really gets me angry.

They are taking away the respect.

It's one thing to take away the respect of it, but it's another thing entirely to take away the realism behind it all and influence people to even more blinded towards it.

It does sound absurd, but maybe it will make other people aware, think, and find interest in the subject. Who knows after they leave they too will want to seek the truth to what actually happened?

It is said, "you learn something new every day", maybe they will also.

One can only hope but in this case my hopes are low.

I didn't go to the festival for this reason (that the city has taken it over.) I didn't think it was worth going to. Especially since all of the events were charged. And they had their costume contest at a McDonald's rather then at the UFO Center. The Center offered more space- how much space can their be in a fast food joint?!

This is why I hate the Roswell incident. People say it's "the holy grail of UFO incidents" but to me it's the exact opposite! It's a nightmare! The truth is so wrapped up in lies, false leads and misinformation I just dismiss it altogether. Using the event as a tourist attraction doesn't help things at all, it just provokes people to make up a story so they can be slightly famous.
