Here is an ‘ear burner’ (opener?) for some religious (and non-religious theist/deist) types.
Christopher Hitchens: God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything

Below is a link to a video of Hitchins addressing the Seattle Towne Hall… The content strikes right at the heart of ALL Religions, so some of you may find his remarks a bit…blasphemous and downright Unpalatable… ~rore

http://www.seattlechannel.org/schedule/pro...p?title=5070718

**Scroll down the page of the above link a bit and right clik on the little TV box...

Quote from Hitchens: “The pursuit of unfettered scientific inquiry, and the availability of new findings to masses of people by electronic means, will revolutionize our concepts of research and development.
Very importantly, the divorce between the sexual life and fear, and the sexual life and disease, and the sexual life and tyranny, can now at last be attempted, on the sole condition that we banish all religions from the discourse.
And all this and more is, for the first time in our history, within the reach if not the grasp of everyone.”

Sorry… I don’t know of any written transcripts of that lecture. You might try a pair of headphones if your speakers aren’t working… Or buy the book…lol Hitchens says it’s ‘moderately priced’… several times during the lecture…:devil2: I’d say it is worth the investment if one is seriously considering the notion that religions cause more harm than good for Humanity. All religions, including Buddhism et al… ~rore

I like Chris Hitchens... I may buy his book. Sounds interesting. Even Buddhism & Hinduism can still be quite dogmatic, at times.

I'll say that the person didn't know enough about Buddhism, because it's totally different from any others. Hindhu has a God. How can you say including "Buddhism and Hindhu"

Basically, how ever against Buddhism is the person who against the concept of living less greed, anger and ignorance. People might misunderstand some of the teachings easily about greedy and deligent, and think, oh this is not suite for their lifestyle, because then how can they being rich if they believe in it when the teaching says don't be greedy. But really being greedy and being deligent are different at the content of intention, with or without greed. So people can still be rich, while making other good people happy.

I want to know what teachings of Buddhism poisoning society? Please question and I'll try to find out the answer. thanks wink.gif

Toniol posts: I'll say that the person didn't know enough about Buddhism

Did you read the book? I haven’t yet, just reviews from several friends of mine and watching Hitchens on various interview shows and the lecture vid in Seattle. He sounded pretty knowledgeable to me.

Here’s something to consider regarding religious poisoning:
Considering Buddhism is a major religion of Japan and noting Japan‘s involvement in WWII, you tell me how peace is brought to the people who practice Buddhism… Any Dogma has the ability to poison the minds of its adherents. ~rore
