The International Emergency Economic Powers Act deals with confiscation of "property" of foreign countries who have aided, planned, engaged in hostilites against the U.S.

If I read this correctly, the power is to be expanded to include property owned by citizens within the U.S. who are "suspected" of engaging in similar acts or thwart progress in Iraq or whatever reason to declare a state of emergency.
It further expands:

Executive Order 13303 of May 22, 2003--Protecting the Development Fund for Iraq and Certain Other Property in Which Iraq Has An Interest(petroleum)

Executive Order 13315 of August 28, 2003--Blocking Property of the Former Iraqi Regime, Its Senior Officials and their Family Members, and Taking Certain Other Actions(lawsuits)

Executive Order 13350 of July 29, 2004--Termination of Emergency Declared in Executive Order 12722 with Respect to Iraq and Modification of Executive Order 13290, Executive Order 13303, and Executive Order 13315 (due to removal of Sadam Hussein)

Executive Order 13364 of November 29, 2004--Modifying the Protection Granted to the Development Fund for Iraq and Certain Property in Which Iraq Has An Interest and Protecting the Central Bank of Iraq (protection of petroleum title rights to initial purchaser)

So would this mean that they can potentially seize the property of a war protester?

So basicly in a nutshell, this means that we went to Iraq to seize property from a country that just happens to have allot of oil sitting under it?

Not because there were supposedly Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq.

Or I am totally off base here? :headscrat

It means that anybody who the Secretary of the Treasury (who is not within the DOJ by the way) deems to pose a signifigant risk (meaning they actually havn't done, but they might) of 1) threatening the peace or stability of Iraq or the Government of Iraq 2) undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people; may have all of their assets (which include money, property, etc) frozen.

This all means that you can actually have your property taken away from you without ever appearing before a court or a jury, or being able to appeal you case.

Bush seems to have found a nifty way of getting past the 4th amendment.

The bigger picture is that we're not leaving Iraq for a long, long, long, time because there are certain conglomerate interests (those that operate the Iraq Central Bank, develop operations for the acquisition, production, sale of petroleum products) that are to be protected. Talk of US withdrawal from Iraq undermines those efforts.

Well at least during Vietnam anti-war sentiments help shape policy.

Now when you speak out against the Iraq war: you are

a) labeled unpatriotic with a defeatist mentality

cool.gif simply ignored

c) run the risk of being viewed as a threat to progress in Iraq, wind up locked up, and denied due process.

AJ that tag line rocks. dammit thats what i get for taking a leave of absence.

now on to the topic....

what is astounding to me is that people are actually surprised when they find a proverbial knife in the back. it would be nice to have faith in our leaders or the "system". reality does not allow for it. unless you've had you're head in the sand for the last five decades you should know better. what can i say... i have a problem with authority. call it a flaw.

politicians get away with lies to the point that it is referred to as a common euphemism... (and this is ok!?)

if you are not angry, then you have not been paying attention. (or you just don't give a fuck, which is just as lame as the draft.)

seems i remember there was a word for these assholes.... oh yeah... Collaborator!

viva la revolucion.

I think they have been holding off the draft because deep down they know that once it has been instituted "real" opposition will ensue.

BTW: If they do institute the draft, guess what it will include girls/women this time around.

MD, i'll take that as a compliment.

maintain against the grain.

i'm sure there are many others that feel / think / KNOW the same. just not many are willing to 'vocalize'. especially if what they know or have experienced may seem absurd to the rest of the flock. (on sites like this there are usually many more that read than post...)

i'll use snuff film as an analogy. perfect example. most people don't know they exist. a few have heard tale. and even fewer buy, sell, or make them. even the very existence of such filth is up for debate as "conspiracy theory", an untruth probably perpetuated by those involved with this insidious enterprise. we are too trapped in the money system for it to not be a truism. extreme excess breeds extreme eccentricity. the more wealth one attains the more demanding and insatiable their tastes become. (cuban cigar anyone?) add to that the element of the unscrupulous merchant and you have a market. snuff happens, despite the number of people that ignore or disbelieve. it is a reality.

most folks like to feel comfortable with their surroundings. truth hurts. lets suppose thats why we go out of our way to ignore, or numb ourselves to it. if that means disregarding the ugly underbelly of human depravity helps them sleep tight then no truer words have been spoken than: ignorance is bliss.

Nice Aba.

By the way, I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but I have had quite a few Cuban Cigars and let me tell you they are over rated.

Mandela, it's not so much a conspiracy as it is happening right in front of our faces. It's in the news and on TV every single day. The word Patriot is basically a four letter word now. Remember what happened immediately after 9/11? We were TOLD to CONSUME, WORK, GIVE MONEY, DONATE BLOOD. If we didn't do those things we were labelled anti-americans, anti-patriots, or were branded just as bad as the "terrorists". The aforementioned basically just kept people busy enough to ignore the big picture: the patriot act, wmds, the fact that the hijackers were saudi and not iraqi, phone tapping, etc....

So, ya.... not so much a conspiracy as this shit is going down right before our very eyes.
