This may sound kinda silly, but i used to spend a lot of time playing Sims 2. I kinda started to wonder if we are but a part of some simulation or program, we act for the most part autonamously but may be directed around by others, all without our knowledge. Its kinda like the Matrix/ some other movie I cant remember (some game that these people were playing, turned out the real world was also a game, or something, was many years ago)
Basically yeah I was just wondering if anybody has contemplated this before? Please note I really dont believe this is true, just wondering if its possible or not
cheers

I suspect most of us had some thoughts along those lines from time to time - I have to say though that my principle aim in life, when determining 'reality', is to unwrap behaviour which is fashioned by society and cultural norms. I don't mean they are all wrong but there will undoubtedly be some of them which have profound effects if we 'lose them' and discover how we would really react.

Sorry, I'm ill right now lying in bed typing this, and probably not making much sense - but so much of our behaviour is a product of it being inculcated in us - I just want to know which parts.

Right along my line of thought. In fact, I've always thought that on some level, a "higher" version of myself is attempting to live through my "earthbound" self, and trying to enrich/upgrade my experience over time - perhaps even over several life experiences/incarnations.

I used to a be a huge fan of RPGs (the table-top variety, with dice, paper, etc.). I've sometimes wondered if this is absolutely THE most detailed MMORPG ever imagined. I mean, what IF there are people who are the heroes of this game, but people like you and me are just role-playing the background? If this is role-playing, it's a whole new order of role-playing.

On the other hand, there's a mystical correlation as well. For example, let's say there's this immortal creator being (I avoid saying 'God' just because I don't want this to be a religious issue). This being lives in infinity, a universe of pure energy. It creates a finite universe, full of rules and limitations, wherein it can actually learn. I mean, it knows for example, that fire is hot, because it knows everything (being limitless), however, it can't actually experience fire in a new way. Oh, sure, it knows all about fire, but can't actually touch it, and even if it did, it wouldn't actually experience anything new because it already knows what it'll feel like. So it creates a finite universe, creates fire, breaks off pieces of itself that can think and act autonomously (like, for example, if I could release my hand and let my hand experience life without me). These pieces can then experience the universe in a new way, because they are denied infinite knowledge: therefore all experiences are NEW experiences, and though the pieces will not return knowing anything that the original being did not, in essence, already know, they will have experienced it in a way that the original cannot.
