This is very very strange, it looks like some type of underwater facility of some kind. This has to be discussed, if anyone has more information please share thanks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9km1SIDmcA

I don't think there's anything mysterious about this. Might be a lighthouse, or an old (naval?) outpost of some kind. As for the question 'Why would the ship turn away like that?'... well, probably to keep from running into reefs & shore. Just my 2 cents.

It also is just a part of the evolution of coral atolls that dot the Pacific.....there isn't even any land there anymore.....look at 11.36.32.23N--165.24.29.90E...for another example....minus a few islands.

and as for the boat turning....remedial seamanship....coral reefs bad.

I was going to say it's an atoll. It doesnt look like it's totally under water. That round object does look like the foundation of a lighthouse.

trog...yes it appears to be a small almost totally submerged....the waves were breaking on the coral reefs just below the surface....It also looks like the three round structures and man-made.
