I'm not sure if this particular book has been discussed yet and I didn't want to spend an hour sifting through all the posts to find out so I figured I would post this.
Whitley Strieber has a new book out called "2012 - The War of Souls". In it he basically describes what will really happen in 2012 - a race of Draconians invading the earth and...for lack of a better term...destroying our souls. He says that the Dracos have the technology to separate the soul from the body and destroy it if they wish so that we have no chance for life after death. Has anyone read this book? I'm just going by what I've heard from a friend who read it. Is it even possible to "destroy" a soul seeing as how the soul is not physical? Thoughts please. There are so many theories about what's going to happen on that day, it's just crazy. We can all hope that nothing happens at all. - Shawn |

No Draconians - No Armageddon.
Whitley is an opportunist who sees the chance of making a fast buck from the alien phenomena - with complete fiction - 'Communion' included.... Ben |

"....a race of Draconians invading the earth and...for lack of a better term...destroying our souls." It sounds like a Philip K. Dick novel he wrote while blitzed on drugs, then scrapped it because nobody should take one man's word that reptiles are coming to eat their soul. "War of The Worlds" panic...is all it could hope to accomplish. |

2012 - The War of Souls is supposedly in production right now.
Yep… It looks like this little gem is to be made into a movie under the genre ‘Science Fiction‘… That says it for me… Michael Bay is the Director though… (Transformers, Armageddon etc) so it may turn out to be a cool sci-fi flik… http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0988032/ Imho, Whitley lost his credibility when he wrote Communion under the guise of Non-fiction! A bunch of little aliens scurrying about his roof-top in the woods??? Gimme a break ~rore -------------------- Peace&Love~rore

For me, 'Phenomena' (ghosts, spirits, ESP etc) would put more of a 'stop' on things. Sci-Fi has proven time and time again in its' practical predictions, often even surpassed by the writings. Phenomena hasn't.
As open-minded as I try to be, a WV Beetle transforming robot from Mars still seems more likely to me than a ghost of my grandmother. |

We can all hope that nothing happens at all.- Shawn If you search the internet about the end of the world, you will see more predictions than you can poke a stick at. None of which has come true so far. I think what will follow 2012 is 2013 then 2014 and so on. I wouldn't lose sleep over it Shawn, some people like to capitalize on peoples fear. am losing no sleep worrying about draconian stealing souls. Strieber is a nutter.

'...So-called "UFO-ologists" are probably the cruellest, nastiest and craziest people I have ever encountered. Their interpretation of the visitor experience is rubbish from beginning to end. The "abduction reports" that they generate are not real. They are artifacts of hypnosis and cultural conditioning.
What we are experiencing is a perceptual anomaly that is sufficiently ambiguous and intense that it demands explanation. It is something that human beings have been experiencing for a long time. It is the cause of religion, of mythology, of folklore. Presently it is the cause of the "alien abduction" belief. What is *really* behind our experiences? We are. This is a human thing....' Ben |

Not all of them BEN.
Your interpretation of them, I agree with to a point. I do not put any credit to Whitley. He is a writer. Hopped onto the bandwagon, sort of speak. I still feel that there are some genuine cases. -------------------- QUEST FOR THE REAL TRUTH |

How CAN one destroy the soul? If you think of the soul as our life force: the energy that inhabits our body, our consciousness, then I don't think a soul CAN be destroyed (though I suppose fundamentalist Christians and their Lake of Fire might disagree). I see that soul as energy, which cannot be destroyed OR created. It can be contained, it can change shape, but it can't be destroyed. If you look at the soul from a metaphysical point of view, from a religious point of view, then NO corporeal being has the power to determine whether or not one can enter the afterlife. That realm is God's and God's alone.
So whether you take the scientific 'soul energy' view, or whether you take the religious view, no, I don't think draconians are going to eat my soul in 2012. -------------------- "A Wise Man looks at a grain of sand and sees the Universe...

Ah, Ben's post is in quotes...very telling.
I dunno, there is a religion which claims that we are all housing an alien in our souls. Maybe the reptiles are just gonna show up, get their soul back and fly on home. Hey, it could happen...haha...=) |

It's stated in the book that "God is a myth". And that perhaps we were created by an alien race - one that can separate our souls from our bodies and use them for "entertainment" purposes. Because, apparently, the earth once belonged to aliens, and now they want it back.
Of course, I don't believe any of this. It's just...silly. Don't get me wrong - I do believe in alien life. I think it's just impractical not too based on the infinite size of our ever-expanding universe. I just don't believe an invasion of soul-sucking reptiles is going to happen any time soon. That's the stuff of sci-fi movies. - Shawn |

LOL
I was gonna say....gee Ben, funny for a "forum elder" on an alien and ufo forum who doesn't believe in aliens and ufos! Thanks for clearing that up. The only book I ever read of Strieber (btw...is it pronounced stryber or streeber?) was "Confirmation" which I kind of enjoyed. I never read Communion (or at least I never finished it). I did see the movie when I was a kid though. Establishing Christopher Walken as the scariest man in the world. - Shawn |

Not too scary. I mean, if your soul is destroyed, you'll never be able to remember it, so it's just as good as never existing anyways, or not having a soul really.

Yeah but..not existing.......how boring is that?!
Basically, that would be like how you felt before you were conceived - nothing. Oblivion. I'm not for that. But I seriously don't think it's something to be worried about. Personally, I foresee the world going on long after 2012. And the human race will continue to evolve. - Shawn |

I'm pretty sure that most people believe there is life beyond this Planet (or at least a possibility) however, I do think it's a human concept to believe they are Reptiles living underground (or from where ever) ready to come suck our souls out.
Like what? I guess I need to read the book to see how said soul removal is done. A little device which goes up your nose? |

I have read all three of his books and have to say , when I first got them I was so pumped. I was actually hoping for a bit of realism. What I got was a good book of fiction. I don't want to call the man a liar, as I have no proof it did or did not happen. But, come on now. Even I know a good read of fiction when I read it.And I have to agree if you believe you have been abducted, how can you not believe in aliens? What abducted him then? Has any one read the book the "Grays" by Whitley Strieber? One book he says there are no aliens , but in the book the "Grays", he says they're already here! So, I guess it's up to each of us to make our own opinion about what he is really trying to say.
