The idea is that it cooks your food with infrared lightwaves, but it's gas heating ceramic.
Which is exacly like my forge I use to do blacksmithing stuff. And that's not exactly high-tech, and it's just...umm...heat.

Or am I missing something?

Science people?

Kelly, I think it heats up the ceramic element using the gas source.. The blurb I got on one site reads:
“The infrared burner works by focusing the flame of a standard gas burner onto a ceramic tile that has thousands of microscopic holes in it. This converts the heat of the flame into infrared energy, the same energy you feel from the sun on a cold day. This heat is much higher and more persistent than a standard grill can produce.”

“Thousands of microscopic holes” sounds like they are using a porous ceramic…? ~rore

Here’s a blurb and link to a BBQ grill review:

“Infrared heating has become big trend in grills. Many restaurant grills use infrared heating to generate the kind of power needed to sear steaks perfectly. It doesn't rely on hot air as much as charcoal or gas grills.”

Right...that's how a gas forge works, too.

This all just seems really gimmicky to me.

I mean, it's heat.

My toaster oven glows red, too. I wonder if a toaster qualifies as an infrared cooking device?
