I have to say AU is turning into a bloody joke, where ever you look we have idiots posting complete nonsense, is anything going to be done ? or is this a trend that is going to be aloud to continue......

I wanted to say something but felt that I don't post enough to comment. But I agree. I have been reading this sight for about four years now and treat it as a kind of online newspaper which I read pretty much every day. I love what most of you long time posters write but it does seem that recently the standards have slipped. It's a great shame.

I know i should post more if I want to see a change but....

Yes there seems to be an onslought of rediculous posts ment to irritate. Being fairly new to this site myself maybe I have no legitimate say.

Did you consider that if some thread in here came uncomfortibly close to a truth someone wanted to hide they might seek to make the site seem unworthy of serious consideration?

Also if some threads become interesting to a larger audience then more traffic means more exposure to fools as well.

Consider as well that if crazy posts were deleted or forbidden then it would no longer be an open forum of debate but one limited by censorship. Open that door and it leads into a dark path that opposes the very purpose of this site.

As always it is left for the investigater to sift through the mud to find the treasure. A reflection of the larger scope found in all current events.

Not going to respond to them any more. Not even to tell them to piss off. Ignore them and let their threads die. Show that they waste their time. Eventually they get bored and go away.

Gee whizz... Trolls on forums isn't a new phenomena by all means...

Thing is, it's not like the Mods and Admin live in any forum 24/7, so sometimes it takes a little while for the troll posts to go. Rather than reply to obvious trolls it's always best to ignore them and not entertain them and simply do a bad post report and wait til their crap gets deleted...

Well on that note i guess there is not alot left to say then.....

I have noticed there seems to be a lot more weird off the planet posts, and not to many....lets say balanced ones. I love this place, but of late I can't help get the feeling that it is now all about being the biggest site with lots of visitors, who really cares about the content. More of a commercial venture.
No offense guys but with a few exceptions, the only time you see any mods or admins here is either in an effort to raise money or to sort out trouble. Other than that nothing.

Personally I have tried to look at it as just kids learning the new wonders of our world. I have (in my opinion) tried to offer a middle of the road perspective. But I am finding less and less threads to post in. When a thread like Aliens stole my Garden Gnome appears, you are left with a choice to either post something adversarial, or ignore it. I feel many of us older folk are choosing to ignore it, only to be overrun by the nutcracker suit.
I havn't got a solution, and I am not going anywhere, but I do understand where Fen is coming from.

I've noticed it too ... but I think it runs in cycles. We've had some pretty amazing whoppers come through in the last couple of years. You remember the alien princess? Ultima1 was a whole book of problems. That said ... you know, as annoying as Ultima1 was, when he was here, this board was really active. He used to go through nearly every post and start the most idiotically funny arguments. Sometimes I miss the guy. I've even toyed with the idea (I'll never do this ... don't worry) of signing up under a false name and pulling an Ultima1 just to liven things up. Again, I won't do it ... but you see my point.

I will say that we're in a bit of a lull as far as serious posts go. Maybe we need to dig up some stuff.

As members of AU we should all be looking for good threads to start. You people know how much I post here and threads I've started. We need more people to get more active in starting new good threads and report the bad ones.
I am on here up to 6-7pm CST and gone until about 8am CST.
Like Dingo says, there are times when we are not around and these shit posts and threads will remain until our return. Reporting them brings it to our attention immidiately upon logging in and we know right away without searching through the site.

I just ignore the morons, my gut guides me in who is serious and who tries to jerk my chain.

Hmm... It does seem like a lot more of the nuts have been spamming lately and activity from the more worthwhile posters is dropping. Sad, but I'm sure it won't be any sort of continuous trend. New people join the message board every day, and out of every 10, there has to be at least one intelligent person whose posts aren't just as simple as: "likeomgguys! Are aliens real?? Discus."

Hey, at least there aren't as many annoying little kids running around here as there are in MMO's LOL such as WoW.

If you have noticed more silly posts around here it is because:

a) you have been reading more of the posts

b ) the forum is more popular, so more people join us and post

c) UFO/ paranormal phenomena has gained popularity, making more people post

I see all 3 points as positive things overall.

So thats a good think if all they are doing is posting drivel...?

Sorry Senhuan but i would take quality over quantity anyday.

More people mean more opinions. Drivel or otherwise. We can not hope to be an Elite society. More opinions will mean more things to sift. That, in my humble opinion, is an advantage.

Unless one sees AU as a read-through in 2 minutes forum.

You know, we HAVE been getting a lot of new people here recently, but a few recent threads .... man, they're just way, way, way out there.

We've got one person in direct, secret alliance with the guardians of the universe, and then we've got another poster who flies UFOs, befriends grays, walks through walls, flies like superman, and NOW apparently can kill people with his mind.

It's a bit much. I KNOW we have to be tolerant, and I'm trying to be ... but how much is too much?

You know, the stuff Ben went off on before he left was positively ho-hum-yawn common compared to some of these new posts.

I know we had the alien princess a while back, and the secret agent with 'inside information', and all that. But, man, these new people.

You know, I was scolded by one of out veterans here about being too harsh on one of those posts: but in all seriousness, if something is a BS fantasy, why do we have to pretend it's not?

I'm not a saint! Some of these posts aren't just stretching belief a little. They are way leagues beyond that.

I am not a speed reader, but it takes me 2 - 4 seconds to open a thread and realize it is BS. If, after wasting those 2 - 4 seconds, I decide to stay and comment, I will. I am prepared to sacrifice those few seconds in order for the website to gain popularity.

I agree, Fen. Even when I wasn't going on a posting spree, I always visited often just to read interesting posts and perhaps gain some new knowledge. But now, I scoff at half of the posts made by new(er) people and only tend to come on when I find myself at an idle moment. The oldie members (by join date, not age!) still seem to have their bearings, though.
