Supposedly they prefer strawberry ice cream..

hah, no, I've heard a lot of stuff about a number of aliens having both human, AND plant capabilities. For example, their skin is made out of some sort of plant makeup. I think I remember hearing something about possible "photosynthesis-like" capabilities. Youtube William Cooper's major lecture (long-ass.. very informative lecture). He mentions it somewhere in there, and a few other places.

As far as what I've deducted.. I'd imagine some sort of processed liquid. In fact, I'm surprised the military doesn't follow something of that sort. ie.. give them sort of "IV" bags that are full of HIGHLY concentrated calories, vitamins, and ALL of the necesities that food gives us, and have it slowly injected into our blood. I don't know much about anatomy (as you may tell), but SURELY there is a way that we can be "fed" MUCH more efficiently than just eating/drinking, and that sounds like the most efficient way. Think.. it'd cut absolutely all the cost on buying/growing/killing food.. Unfortunately, I LOVE to eat. As efficient as it is.. eating makes my day.. haha

One of the best I have ever heard of was a diet of light weight metals. Such as aluminum. It was for a humanoid race. It was not the only thing they eat but was a good part of it. I thought that made for an exotic diet.

But mostly the diets I have heard of are vegetarians and meat eaters. Like us, but some don't do so well with both meat and veggie. As fish get passed back and forth between veggie and meat, I would like to point out that it forms a separate diet that is likely the 3rd most popular diet - sea food.

Lol, Mac. Good one.

However, isn't it obvious they prefer beef? Cattle mutilations indeed ... it's barbecue! So what if they enjoy the ... odd cuts.

How about pancakes?

QUOTE
Date
April 18, 1961 Location
Eagle River, Wisconsin, United States

Summary: Mr. Paul Simonton, a chicken farmer in Eagle River, Wisconsin saw a disc-shaped craft land vertically on his farm. A hatch opened, and when he approached he saw three human-looking men inside. They asked him for some water. They appeared to be cooking pancakes on a griddle, and in exchange for the water they gave him four of the pancakes from griddle. The episode survived a rigorous assessment by the U.S. Air Force and is carried in their files as "unexplained."

Lol, now that is just way too "down to Earth". Really, he should have said something much more creative then "pancakes".

I don't think a race capable of interstellar travel would need to eat for sustenance. The process of digestion would most likely be engineered out of their physiology.

They'd have to be pretty advanced to engineer their own biology. Advanced enough to have biological spacecraft and organic technology. Eating gives us a method of keeping our meals from killing us. We have self defense mechanisms in the form of vomiting if the food isn't safe. We use concentrated hydrochloric acid to help us digest our food as well as kill anything harmful in our food. This doesn't always work as anybody who has seen what happened in the field of medicine with respect to chronic heartburn. A microbe was living in the stomach acid of the sufferers. It has been proven that antibiotics would kill the microbe and they don't have to take antacid tablets the rest of their lives.

The best engineering ideas would be ones that would engineer our foods so that they can be from our recycled waste so that we can take our food with us on planetary hops. ( Sewage burgers comes to mind, but I think that we can do better than that. )

Sewage burgers. They kill the bacteria growing on sewage and filter it out. Put a flavour and colour on it and form it into patties. Voila! Recycled waste! The Japanese do wonderful things with machinery and I think that they should stick to electronics rather than give us a taste of a settling pond.

Less advanced races need to be able to scavenge for food on the planet that they are visiting. Be sure that the planet's biology matches your own if you go this route. It could lead to sickness or death to the unwary.
