On the website below is a photo of a rock carving that is from ancient Persia (Iran). On horseback is a man with an elongated neck. The man's arms are behind his back which might mean he is a prisoner that is about to be executed. The head is near the top of the rock. I am not sure if everyone will be able to see it clearly. You can see the face.
Also behind the man on horseback is a figure that looks like a man with a lion face. The man has a hat. It might not be easy to see. http://forthardknox.com/wp-content/uploads...persepolis5.gif Photo attached with outline of face, neck of man on horseback. Also man with lion face has the hat outlined in red. Click on picture to enlarge. This post has been edited by tye: Jun 15 2008, 07:21 PM

I have attached a photo of a rock carving that is from ancient Persia (Iran). On horseback is a man with an elongated neck. The man's arms are behind his back which might mean he is a prisoner that is about to be executed. I outlined the neck and head which is near the top of the rock. I am not sure if everyone will be able to see it clearly. You can see the face. Also behind the man on horseback is a figure that looks like a man with a lion face. I outlined the hat in red so you can see where the the face of the man would be. Sorry, but where is the attachment? -------------------- "A Wise Man looks at a grain of sand and sees the Universe...

The man that looks like it has a lion face in the photo from the website, also attached is not easy to see. It might not even be part of the rock carved
scene. If it is part of the scene, could it be the face of dog-type creature?: http://www.theoi.com/Phylos/Kunokephaloi.html Aelian, On Animals 10. 25 : "After traversing the Egyptian oasis one is confronted for seven whole days with utter desert. Beyond this live the human Kynoprosopoi (Dog-Faces) along the road that leads to Aithiopia. It seems that these creatures live by hunting gazelles and antelopes; further, they are black in appearance, and they have the head and teeth of a dog. And since they resemble this animal, it is very natural that I should mention them here [in a book on Animals]. They are however not endowed with speech, but utter a shrill squeal. Beneath their chin hangs down a beard; we may compare it with the beards of Drakones, and strong and very sharp nails cover their hands. Their whole body is covered with hair--another respect in which they resemble dogs. They are very swift of foot and know the regions that are inaccessible: that is why they appear so hard to capture." Aelian, On Animals 10. 30 : "It occurs to me now to mention the following additional facts relating to Kynokephaloi [thought to derive from travellers accounts of baboons]. If a Kynokephalos finds some edible object with a shell on it (I mean almonds, acorns, nuts) its strips the shell off and cleans it out, after first breaking it most intelligently, and it knows that the contents are good to eat but that the outside is to be thrown away. And it will drink whine, and if boiled or cooked meat is served to it, it will eat its fill; and it likes well-seasoned food, but food boiled without any care it dislikes. If it wears clothes, it is careful of them; and it does everything else that I have described. If you put it while still tiny to a woman’s breast, it will suck the milk like a baby." Hesiod, Catalogues of Women Fragment 44 : "No one would accuse Hesiod of ignorance though he speaks of the Hemikunes (Half-Dog people) and the Makrokephaloi (Great-Headed people) and the Pygmaioi (Pygmies)." The Theoi website has alot of information on strange creatures that are mythological. Some are said to really have existed. Dog Headed Saint Cristopher
Tradition relates that Saint Christopher came from a country of cannibals and that his face was doglike. "He was of gigantic stature, had a terrifying mien, was twelve coudees tall.” - Jacques de Voragine, in The Golden Legend [A coudee is slightly larger than an English foot. So as per this ancient account, St. Christopher stood from 12 to 18 feet tall, a facet of the Christopher Legend forgotten or erased from church history. The dog-headed Christopher myth originates in the reign of the Emperor Diocletian [c 243-316 CE] A man named Reprobus ["Wicked" in Latin] was captured in battle against tribes in North Africa, and was assigned to the "numerus Marmaritarum" or "Unit of the Marmaritae". He was reported to be of tremendous size, with a dogs head instead of a human one, by some accounts this was characteristic of the Marmaritae people, but highly unlikely. Early translations did not always render an accurate translation of the Greek term kunokephalos ("dog-headed" ), and at times translated it as canineus ("dog-like"). This progressively morphed to read "Canaanite" (Cananeus) since it seemed apparent that a Saint could not really have been "dog-like". So Christopher the "Canaanite" (Cananeus) was actually Christopher the Canineus ("dog-like") . Some believe that the description of Christopher as hailing from the land of the dog-headed derives from the Egyptian cult of the jackal-headed god Anubis. Others believe that the civilized intellectuals of the Greco-Roman world were accustomed to describing those who lived on the outskirts of civilization as cannibals and dog-headed savages. So that when the original author of the account of St. Christopher described his origin from the land of cannibals and dog-headed peoples he was merely signifying that he came from the edge of the civilized world, a cultural metaphor . It has been speculated that St. Christopher could be the same man known as the Coptic Saint Menas for whom a 4th century burial site is known . Doubts about the historical existence of Christopher, long the patron saint of travelers, prompted the Catholic Church to remove his name from the calendar of saints in 1969. http://www.geocities.com/age_of_giants/anc...hristopher.html

It could be a ritualistic execution with the men wearing masks and the individual with the enlongated may simply be of an ethnic group who use rings or cylinders to enlogate their necks...as some do even today...who knows...Allison or Vetamur would be good ones to comment here.

It could also represent the fact that his neck will be stretched when, or by the hanging...?? -------------------- Nathanial "a_skeptic" Meade 1979-2007 RIP |

I am sure some people reading this post have seen stories like this on shows like The Twighlight Zone, The Outer Limits and other sci-fi shows. The story of the Kynoprosopoi (Dog-Faces) sounds like it might be real instead of myth. See attached picture. It seems strange to see a human body in every way and then a dog head.
Aelian, On Animals 10. 25 : "After traversing the Egyptian oasis one is confronted for seven whole days with utter desert. Beyond this live the human Kynoprosopoi (Dog-Faces) along the road that leads to Aithiopia. SD....sounds like a good idea....I just get the feeling it is a prominent prisoner...(because hes riding a horse) perhaps on its way to execution perhaps not. I'm not exactly sure ancient egyptians executed their prisoners anyway... |

The man's arms are behind his back which might mean he is a prisoner that is about to be executed. Are you sure the man's hands are on his back? Couldn't it be that his forearm is broken from the statue? Have a look at the rough surface where his forearm would have been.. -------------------- Time and Space never had a beginning.
