Ok, let me start by saying that I do not belive in alien abduction. I am a Psychology student who is writing a thesis on 'psychological explainations for alien abduction claims'. My reason for joining the site is for research purposes.
Let me tell you my explanations; 1. People are lying in attempts to liven up there mundane lives. 2. Hallucination during the sleep paralacis stage 3. Fever* 4. People so despreatly want to belive it, that the actually talk themselves into thinking that it's real. *It is my theory that 'alien abduction' is like a tangable fever. A Hysteria. If you have a community of poeple and one contracts a disease, the others will start to become paranoid. The will think they are displaying the same symtoms as the diseased. They will belive that it is happening to them. The 'claim' for alien abduction is just like this, only on a more wide spread basis. I don't dicount the fact that 'other' beings may exist. I just don't think that people have been abducted. I am not here to cause offence. I am here to conduct research. Who knows, maybe my research may change my outlook on the topic. So please respect my opinion. |

Hi Ziva,
Firstly, welcome One of the great things about this forum is that everybody has something to learn from it! Over the years there have been some outlandish claims and some really strange and unexplainable experiences people have shared with the community. As you start to delve deeper into each topic you will find some things which are truly hard to explain. A common theory for 'alien abduction' is sleep paralysis, this will be a theme you will see repeated over and over again. It is ultimately up to the individual to decide if that is what they believe, i guess that is the beauty of this sort of open forum. I hope you find some insight and/or answers you are looking for here. Take care |

As a student of this, why don't you try to contact that John Mack guy? I'm pretty sure he'll be more than happy to share with his research. Anyway, welcome to the forums.
Personally, I believe your list explains 99.99994% of abduction claims, but be careful that you don't biased yourself. Coming to conclusions before you perform a task sometimes leads to frustration. This post has been edited by JDorfler: Jun 28 2008, 10:59 AM -------------------- |

Thanks for the welcome.
And as a side note; 5. Possibly 'Barnum effect' can also be an explaination for 'alien abduction'. |

Thanks for the welcome. And as a side note; 5. Possibly 'Barnum effect' can also be an explaination for 'alien abduction'. Also known as the Forer Effect. |

Welcome to the forum.
You might want to familiarize yourself with all the abduction reports before reaching for conclusions. There are many good books that cover them, all the way back to the Betty and Barney Hill case. -------------------- QUEST FOR THE REAL TRUTH |
