I got this idea from a guy in another thread he was talking of his interest in geological-predeterminism, which I think is an altogether different thing but it reminded me of this interesting theory anyway.

Anyway for those who don't know Predeterminism is the theory that the future is already mapped out, so in reality you have no free will and any discission you make was always going to have been made. Let me give a break down of how this works as I see it:

Firstly you have a kind of computer program injected from conception-DNA, this determines among other things your character(how you will react to a given situation, i.e. aggressively or passively). [Ignoring possible future advances in gene-manipulation] YOU CANT CHANGE THIS PROGRAM, IT INFLUENCES YOUR BEHAVIOR FOR YOUR ENTIRE LIFE.(Call this computer program A)

Secondly The evironment around you(people, places, advents) has affected you from the very start of your life and is continuosly doing so, what ever happened in your past will always influence in some way what you do in the present and future- YOU CANT CHANGE YOUR PAST AND IT ALSO INFLUENCES YOUR BEHAVIOR FOR YOUR ENTIRE LIFE.(Call this computer program cool.gif

Given these are the two factors that influence every discission, action and emotion you perform now and in the future, do you really have a free will?, or is every future action you make just a product of these two interacting computer programs and therefore was always going to happen?.- PREDETERMINISM

Thanks for listerning, I kept it as brief as I could because people fall asleep easily. biggrin.gif

Meh, I really don't believe in that. But I do believe that everything happens for a reason. Some agree with that, some don't. But hey, I'm weird. tongue.gif

kinda remainds me of the whole matrix thing "you alredy choose the choise, now you have to understand the choise that you made" well if there were people who can see the future well, i guess the furute we alredy choose it and we cannot change it.

offtopic: just like a dream i had when i was a little kid, then when i grew up i had flashbacks of that dream that happened, so i guess i believe in this pretedesim rolleyes.gif

I think every action has a cause...so every action is predetermined by the cause...and every cause has a first...which has predeetermined all past, present, and future actions...the whole damn thing smile.gif

Some may be predetermined perhaps.. but then take into consideration the effects of your past life but you have to add current influences and your own character make up...Isn't it all about how a person is made up.. take the genetic influence and the life experiences together with the opportunities and fellow man.. and you have a result.
two children can be brought up in the same house watch the same tv programmes have the same rules same environment same friends evenn.. and given choices in later life will choose differently.. The genetic make up must influence as well...

Well if you believe in past-lifes this can just be added to past environmental factors so changes nothing in this proposition. wink.gif

Ahem. Scroll up- this is already in the proposition, "genetic make-up" is just a description of the double helix "DNA" structure is it not?. biggrin.gif Here it is again incase you missed it:

Predeterminism, hmmm. I think everyone has a free will. I would highly doubt the future was mapped out. This theory would sound to artificial to me.

Here is the question and the problem with it. Who or what is determining our future??
If it was predetermined then something has to be around deciding who will do what. Hopefully it will throw some winning lotto tickets my way. biggrin.gif

I hate the thought that our future is already mapped out and refuse to believe this as I want to have free will. But saying that, if some can see into the future and if time travel into the future were a possibility this would mean, in my opinion, that the future has already been decided and there is not much that you can do to change it, and we have no free will. Maybe we have free will with the minor details, and the major events in our life are pre destined.

Who or what decides what is major and what is minor?

I guess that all depends on your own beliefs. I myself dont believe that our lifes are pre destined so I dont think anything determines it.
