It just makes me wonder, since you seem keen on bashing an organization who is trying to bring this man's crimes to light.

I don't particularly support any charities and don't give anything on a regular basis to charity.

I buy my Poppy each year and will donate to Help for Heroes if asked but that is it.

Various countries already knew about this man's crimes without the need for this video. The United States and Uganda have already got soldiers out there looking for this man. Why has this man out of all the evil dictators and evil people in the World suddenly stepped into the spotlight as being number one on the hit-list in people's mind when there are many others we should also be focusing out attention upon...

I would rather the money go to the people who need it then bringing the crimes of this man to light which could have been done for free.

Do you not belief that expenses last year of $8.9 million are ridiculous, when they made $13,765,177 in 2011? That is only about $5 million going to the people who need it, if indeed that is where it is going...

What I'm more concerned about is the need all of a sudden to attack this charity. It seems people in some quarters have a need to discredit this organization.

Why all of a sudden? I don't know, but it seems to me that it is better late than never that this man's crimes have come to light. Yes, there may be some governmental agencies on the ground looking for this individual, but I don't see the harm in bringing the issue to the attention of a larger audience.

You seem to make a big deal out of the money they spend on administrative costs. The fact remains that they still spend 80% of their income on their projects.
That's still a hell of a lot better than some charities out there.

The point of my original post in this thread was to point out the error in another member claiming that they only spent 30% of their revenue on projects.
If you're going to attack a charity, at least get some facts straight.

But I'm not going to keep going on about this. Some people put little stock in supporting charity. I personally will keep helping out as much as I'm able to, for as long as I can. I feel it's the least I can do to at least TRY to make this world a better place.

My frustration with the group has largely reflected the concerns expressed so convincingly by those online critics who have been willing to bring the fury of Invisible Children's true believers down upon themselves in order to point out what is wrong with this group's approach: the warmongering, the narcissism, the commercialisation, the reductive and one-sided story they tell, their portrayal of Africans as helpless children in need of rescue by white Americans.

As a result of Invisible Children's irresponsible advocacy, civilians in Uganda and central Africa may have to pay a steep price in their own lives so that a lot of young Americans can feel good about themselves, and a few can make good money. This, of course, is sickening, and I think that Kony 2012 is a case of Invisible Children having finally gone too far. They are now facing a backlash from people of conscience who refuse to abandon their capacity to think for themselves.

First, because Invisible Children's campaign is a symptom, not a cause. It is an excuse that the US government has gladly adopted in order to help justify the expansion of their military presence in central Africa. Invisible Children are "useful idiots", being used by those in the US government who seek to militarise Africa, to send more and more weapons and military aid, and to bolster the power of states who are US allies.

A co-founder for Invisible Children was detained in Pacific Beach on Thursday for being drunk in public and masturbating, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Jason Russell, 33, was allegedly found masturbating in public, vandalizing cars and possibly under the influence of something, according to the SDPD. He was detained at the intersection of Ingraham Street and Riviera Road.

An SDPD spokesperson said the man detained was acting very strange, some may say bizarre. Video: SDPD statement

"Due to the nature of the detention, he was not arrested," Lt. Andra Brown said. "During the evaluation we learned we probably needed to take him to a medical facility because of statements he was saying."

Police said they received several calls Thursday at 11:30 a.m. of a man in various stages of undress, running through traffic and screaming.

Police described Russell as "in his underwear." He allegedly took off his underwear at one point, but it was back on by the time officers arrived, said police.

Several people attempted to calm him down and when officers arrived police said he was cooperative.

"He was no problem for the police department however, during the evaluation we learned that we probably needed to take care of him," said an SDPD spokesperson. "We determined that medical treatment was a better course of action than arrest."

Russell was taken to a medical center after the incident.

Police could not determine that he formed a criminal intent. There are no criminal charges pending because it looks like this is more of a medical situation, said an SDPD spokesperson.

Maybe it was the charity's own doing to make it viral , to increase capital..so to speak , and obviously the more popular it got , the more people where there to find holes in it...now the truths out , the top mans flipped his lid..

Of course there are other charities out there to give to. And plenty of great ones at that. But I honestly don't see anything wrong with raising awareness of atrocities that take place around the world.

I find it awfully narrow minded to try to take the attention off of the atrocities of someone else so we can pay attention to some misdeed of Jason Russell. As if because of this incident, it makes the rest of his work invalid.
