Default Apparant proof of a true Hypnotic State

It seems a study has proven that there is a true hypnotic state and the mind is not simply acting on suggestion or imagery.

This opens up a myriad of possibilities. Could this state be mapped and tapped? I have never been hypnotised that I am aware of but this study seems to indicate that there is a seperate state of conscieness involved that has charictaristics that cannot be duplicated in a person not under hypnosis.

My question is do you think hypnosis is real, viable and could it be used as a weapon? An example being the supposed Manchurian Candidate...and now, with the idea of a seperate level of activity...could it be accessed remotely with some form of "beam weapon"? Shades of wearing the foil hat - maybe these guys were'nt as nuts as society made them out to be.

Evidence for the existence of a hypnotic state? Key may be in the glazed staring eyes, researchers suggest

Apparently we get hypnotised by watching tv and playing computer games, something to do with the light and constant staring at it, at night they bombard you with commercials as your brain switches off and becomes tiered.

A friend got hypnotised to stop smoking and the hypnotist associated smoking with the colour red, everytime they now see something red it triggers a reaction in the brain to stop the urge.....she not smoked now for approx 10yrs.

@ kellyD a good hypnotist will only do and suggest things you are comfortable with by asking you questions while hypnotised. You don't get hynorised then start random ramblings, lool power of suggestion and a intelligent hypnotist is what you want, also trust is a big thing and you must trust the hypnotist as a dodgy 1 could cause harm to you.
Nobody ever said it was going to be easy!!

Yeah I know, word of mouth usually works tho in this kind of thing tho.

The first hypnotist she went to couldn't hypnotise her so she recommended another 1 to her and they had a money back guarantee where if you don't give up smoking you get your cash back.

Lol, slow down Sagewillow. The article has not proven anything. It does raise the possibility that our current understanding of consciousness is
not fully understood, but not much else at this point.

I realize I'm throwing out grand hypothisis but this paragraph in the article is the main reason for the posting...

    Quoting the article:

In the field of hypnosis research this result means that hypnosis can no longer be regarded as mental imagery that takes place during a totally normal waking state of consciousness. On the other hand, the result may have wider consequences for psychology and cognitive neuroscience, since it provides the first evidence of the existence of a conscious state in humans that has previously not been scientifically confirmed.

    End Quote.
