Default Ever have one of those nights when you're feeling watched?

Okay, so I literally just took my dog outside to do his business. Its dark as hell in my new neighborhood and there are woods directly across the street from my house. I take my dog to the edge of the woods and he suddenly went into attention mode. His tail stuck straight up inthe air and he started growling really low, while looking into the woods. I could hear a few sticks breakingbut it was way to dark to see. As I tried to see thru the woods my eyes started watering like crazy, so much to the point my face was soaked in seconds. Scared the shit outta me and I tried to make my way into the house and had to drag my dog. I came in the house and grabbed my gun and now I'm actually a little afraid to go back out there. First time something this wierd has ever happened, just thought I'd share. I'm sure there was something behind those trees lurking. My dog certainly knew something was out there. The whole thing about my eyes watering like that scares the hell outta me, thats why I think it was something alien. I smelled nothing, and as my eyes started to water I should have left but I just froze for a second it seems looking deeper into the woods.

The eye watering is strange. If you live where bears are, your dog could have been aware of one. I had a siberian that would steer me away from bears near my place in the dark. I would want to take a path and she knew when one was near every time. Eyes watering odd.

Yeah, coulda been an animal. My dog would act a lot like if she spied a porcupine, after having been walloped by one when she was young.

However, I do think she was sensitive to more than I was. We'd spend summers in the country, and there's an old dirt road that ran up past the house into the woods. Back in the day, there would have been fields on either side. There's a local folk tale about a certain area on that road known as the 'high field', where the dirt is red due to a peddler having been murdered there. Susannah (my dog) would always hang way back when we walked past that part of the road, where normally she's bounding ahead.

    Maybe your dog's onto something?

That sound more like a ghost story, seems you had both olfactory and audible ques. Dogs are very perceptive at that, and probably noticed the smells and sound first. That would explain the water eyes... there was an odorless irritant emanating from the woods.

Depending in the area you live in, a cryptozologist can point out you may have had an encounter with one of many strange creatures. There have been encounters with "skunk ape" a plains/swamp version of bigfoot that causes an experience like that...but usually there is a distinct smell.

So it could have been either a paranormal ghostly occurrences or the above.
