It's not going to work in most cases...
It requires the website owners to reprogram their login scripts to detect the ID... I know I'm not going to care enough to do it.

It's like a far far smaller and weaker version of letting users log in with their facebook ID's...

LOL i'm glad i'm not a American then! This would suck big time. Enhance your privacy? What a joke, it decreases you privacy big time because then The U.S. Government would know all your sites and credentials! Because they are all linked together for your convenience LOL yeah right! Keeping tabs on people is never going to be this easy!

If this is going to happen your no longer a free citizen! But a free monitored citizen.

First black president and the same radical ideas as any other white one uhm... Thinking the president doesn't have anything to say! Only high ranked people on the background and Obama is just the face of the company (Government in this case).

Good luck roaming these forums without them knowing what you post.

UK Government seems to be more open minded, it even declassified a shitload of UFO cases about 1 or 2 years ago. Hardly doubt this is going to happen anytime soon in the UK or anywhere else.

I have often wondered if an email address would be good, not that you would use it for much other than government notices, but the ID thing.... NFW would I be a part of that! I wondered about openID for some of my sites, but in the end the biggest question is why and as mentioned previously, privacy.

Again, this is unlikely to every have much success.
What're they going to do, force sites to comply?

The best form of protection for my privacy is actually being able to use multiple ID's, and passwords.
Providing I can remember them all, it assures that just because someone finds out my password for one thing, they do not have access to all my things.

This is just another misguided scheme, with middle-aged men commenting on new technology they have little-to-no understanding of.
So yeah, unlikely to ever get off the ground.
As Web Majick said, such a thing already exists anyway with openID: http://openid.net/

But, it does feel like an attempt to centralise the internet in the US...

There where allready idea's like this 4 years ago by yahoo and hotmail to make one ID and hook it up to different sites. I'm not suprised at all that this type of system is already pre programmed at major site's and communities, that they simply can implement whenever they want to.

Ah, sorry I was editing my post as you put this. I mentioned the openID.
It's mostly only supported by big players in the internet. For the most part, web developers don't care about it. (The software such as for this site doesn't have it implimented I think?, nor do any forum software I've ever seen. Now, I know that's limited range of sites, but it's an example)

It's a voluntary thing though. I'm more irritated in the huge waste in national funds it will no doubt turn out to be... Funny, they can spend millions on shit when a volunteer project from other sources is almost always better.

About 70% of the American Public A.k.A the PEOPLE don't agree with Obama and most of those who voted for him regret it. Seeing how Congress has a majority of Repulicans especially in the House of Representives so I doubt this will pass. The mouthpieces of the big networks that I assume most Foregners hear don't represent the American people.
I can see my house from here
