Assumptions is all there is at this point...None of us saw the circumstances surrounding their deaths...I could also assume that the villagers were shot because they attacked the 'poor sods' with weapons...The facts are not available to us, but I am sure many muslims are saying the same thing you are...It is thoughts like that which keeps conflicts going...

If the plane went down in Gaddaffi territory then it would be logical to assume the locals could be hostile.

One U.S. Navy Carrier Battle Group [CBG/CSG], on-station in the Mediterranean Sea for six months at a time and then relieved by another Carrier Group...
Year in and year out...

A CBG usually consists of: 1 Aircraft Carrier [with 80 plus aircraft], 2 Guided Missile Cruisers, 2 Anti Aircraft Warships, 1-2 Anti Submarine Destroyers or Frigates, a few Los Angeles Class Subs and some support ships.

btw: The US Navy has eleven CBG/CSG total. ~rore

nivek...very well said. It is likely what happened.....door gunners aren't in the habit of hosing down any old civilians in an area just because they are there.
