    Default Reasons to leave Afghanistan

This thread shall form something of a repository of news items which add to the case that the UN coalition in Afghanistan ought to abandon its mission and leave the country at the earliest opportunity. It shall do this by demonstrating that the mission is failing and hopefully compel people to believe that it cannot hope to be won.

Feel free to link to articles pointing in this direction, but try to confine your selection to those in reputable news outlets only--no conspiracy stuff--and preferably news stories and not comment pieces.

Over the weekend, a US soldier suffered some sort of a nervous breakdown and decided to go on a killing spree, murdering 16 innocents and injuring others.

This incident has of course prompted outrage in Afghanistan amongst its people, the Taliban, and even the supposedly allied government.

This incident comes in the wake of the Koran-burning incident which prompted massive outpourings of anger and violence in Afghanistan only a few weeks ago.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-17137338

Last week, a roadside bomb destroyed a British Army Warrior fighting vehicle, killing its six occupants and sending the death toll of British service personnel as a result of the conflict to more than four hundred.

These are a few of the recent events which prompted this thread. However, digging back into past news stories in recent years will provide much more as, I am sure and regret to say, will the future.

As regaurding the current situation with the US soldier , i think the only thing they can do is pass him over to the Afghans ,if they don't they will only be making enermies out of the people they are trying to help , soon as a citizen from another country breaks any US law , they want him extroditing to face trial in a US court....what would happen if foregien soldier from another nation burned the USA flag , and another decided to nip round the local housing estate ,taking women and kids out ...they would be tried in the US...just give them the soldier , then everyone pull out...easy..

Good thread AD, I have subscribed to this one and will add to it as worthy information continues to come forth...

The US should not give that soldier to the Afghans, he will not get a fair trial, the barbaric actions of Afghans thus far in recent weeks gives good indication of that...

What do you think his punishment should be?...Burned at the stake?...Beheaded?...Stoned to death?...Hung by his neck?...Brutally beaten and tortured first?...

My feeling is this.. When you are in a foreign country , you should abide by that countries law ...and the be tried in the same country that you broke their law in...if I was to be a thief in the east , and the law was to chop off my hands , the so be it...just because you go into someone's country to help them , does not give you the right to murder innocent people then be put on trial by some candy ass military court that will push it under the carpet as per ... So yep if a flogging or stoning it is ... Then so be it, if ya can do the crime ya can do the time....

I am with JayKyte on this.
I think it is more politically correct to deliver the Soldier to the Afghan justice.
He commited the crime on the soil of a sovereign country, like it or not, he must be prosecuted by the law of that country.
