The Russian government on Tuesday claimed the West was knowingly overstating the threat from the Syrian regime’s chemical weapons stockpilesThe US and its NATO allies this week issued bombastic statements about a “red line” for military intervention in Syria if the regime of Bashar al-Assad uses chemical weapons on its people. Other reports cited anonymous sources claiming Assad had been mixing new combinations of toxins and moving them to various locations.“Foreign minister Sergei Lavrov declared that there had been an exaggeration of the threat faced by Turkey to justify NATO’s deployment of Patriot missile batteries and the move will end up adding to the tension in the region,” reports The Independent.In explaining the deliberate exaggeration and perhaps fabrication of the Syrian chemical weapons threat, Lavrov explained that “as soon as we get these rumours [about chemical weapons] we engage in constructive demarche; when we get confirmation that nothing of that type is happening we share this information with our American colleagues.”The new bombast was featured directly alongside NATO’s decision to station Patriot missiles in Turkey along the Syrian border. Officials denied they would be used for offensive purposes.

The UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly approved a resolution calling on Israel to open its nuclear program for inspection “without further delay.”Israel’s advanced nuclear arsenal has long been understood to exist, although it hasn’t been officially admitted by the Israeli government. Many have argued Israel’s possession of nuclear weapons is what drives the accelerated Iranian program and causes other regional instability.The resolution was approved on Monday by a vote of 174-6 with 6 abstentions and calls on Israel to join the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty immediately and open its nuclear facilities to inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency.It also offered support for a high-level conference to ban nuclear weapons from the Middle East which was just canceled by the US and Israel, in order to protect Israel’s regional nuclear monopoly.If Israel agreed to dismantling its vast stockpiles of nuclear weapons and to a deal enforcing a nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East – a deal Iran and Israel’s Arab neighbors have repeatedly proposed – the supposed threats Israel faces in the region would virtually disappear.But Israel refuses to give up its nuclear monopoly, insistent on maintaining its excuse to build up its military and distract from the Palestinian issue.As former CIA Middle East analyst Paul Pillar has written, “the Iran issue” provides a “distraction” from international “attention to the Palestinians’ lack of popular sovereignty.”

Funny thing CN, Israel has said for years that they would sign the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty if certain conditions like an Arab /Israeli peace deal was in place first.Sounds reasonable to me.

and as such has never offered to sign the npt. It would be in conflict with official government policy.

Israel dismissed on Tuesday a resolution passed overwhelmingly in the UN General Assembly calling on it to open its nuclear program to inspection as a “meaningless mechanical vote” void of meaning.

The resolution, which calls on Israel to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and immediately open up its nuclear facilities to inspection, was formulated 10 years ago and is brought to the General Assembly, and passed overwhelmingly year after year, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor.

Israel is not a party to the NPT. Its official policy is that it will “not be the first country to introduce weapons into the Middle East,” and that it supports a nuclear-free Middle East following the attainment of peace.

'Peace' for the zionists means when they have secured the Eretz Israel and been recognized by the world as a Jewish theocracy with Jerusalem as it capital and under it's sole possession(no christians no muslims).

CN i did a google and found this,but in my post i was referring to to the years 2007 or 2008,this is from 2010 so it seems this issue is an onging matter.

Members of Iranian-backed Islamic Jihad say Israel has warned the militant group's two top leaders against trying to enter the Gaza Strip this week.
The pair had planned to visit Friday, along with Khaled Meshal the leader-in-exile of Hamas, Islamic Jihad's sister group.
Israel and Gaza's ruling Hamas have been holding indirect talks, through Egypt, following an Israeli offensive on militant targets in Gaza last month.
A truce between Israel and Hamas has been in place since November 21, when an Egypt-brokered cease-fire went into effect, putting an end to Israel's eight-day Gaza offensive, Operation Pillar of Defense.
Two Islamic Jihad members said Thursday that Egypt had relayed warnings that Israel would consider the Gaza truce over if the group's leaders enter Gaza. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to discuss the issue with the media.
Israel's Defense Ministry had no immediate comment.

Morsi: ‘I won’t tolerate anyone working to overthrow a legitimate government’

In a bid to restore order to the country, the Egyptian president has addressed the nation, accusing the opposition of trying to incite violence against his legitimacy – but conceding guilt for the riots that have taken the capital by storm.
“I separate the legitimate opposition from the vandals who committed violence,” Morsi told the nation. “The opposition thinks Article 6 is a problem. I won’t insist on keeping it, and anyway, the decree ends after the referendum.”
Morsi said he will form a new assembly to write the constitution if the current draft is rejected by the referendum.
Morsi mourned those who died in front of the presidential palace, saying his "heart is bleeding for the loss of innocent lives."
"I feel responsible for the riots in Egypt," he said. "My fellow citizens are one body that cannot be separated or torn apart."

The Egyptian president also attacked those who he says are serving the remnants of the Mubarak regime and trying to bring down the government. He said the reason behind the constitutional declaration was to protect Egypt from such conspiracies.
“These people became rich through the ex-regime and are now spending their fortunes to burn our homeland,” Morsi said, claiming that some of those arrested during the clashes outside the presidential palace have links with opposition parties, while others were paid to add heat to the conflict.
“The ex-regime will not come back again, ever,” Morsi stated.
The president has called for a Saturday meeting with the opposition to defuse the crisis, which he says can only be resolved through dialogue.
