The rules by which you live

so.. I am sitting here just wondering about religion and why people feel they need to have one.. or not for that matter..
Doesn't religion give you a set of rules by which to rule your life.. thereby dictating how you should think and feel about thing in life... tells you how to behave how to fear.. ? humm.. another form of governmet ruling how you live your life ...or not?.. a willingly chosen one at that, the government of your country well thats not a one person desicion you can't choose you can only help elect. however the religion.. you chose that ,you chose by which extra set of rules and guidelines you are controlled.
just wondering your thoughts folks..

Rules come from the human being, and religion/politics are just an extension of that. Do unto others would be the basic rule.

No. It's obvious that humans have different ideas on how they should be treated, but by the same token... is there a BETTER way? I mean, most humans don't want to be lied to, treated badly, want love, etc... The only thing to do is treat others the way you yourself want to be treated, or at least, the way THEY want to be treated. (to the best of your ability, without causing harm & going against your principals)
