    Question

Lately, I have been reading the book of Revelation, just because I am interested in learning more about what the bible says about the last days.
As some of you know Revelation is probably the hardest book in the bible to understand, so in order to get a better grip on it, I went to a christian book store and picked up this series of books called "Sheperd's Notes". Sheperd's Notes walks you through verse by verse of whatever book of the bible your studying and hopefully makes it easier to understand. ( it works pretty well for me so far). So, ofcourse I picked up the Revelation volume and started to study it.

While reading one night I came across something, perhaps mentioning that we very well might not be the only intelligent life in the universe. I probably wouldn't have seen this if I didn't have a guide to help me through. I have heard that the bible speaks nothing of other life, but perhaps it does afterall.

    Here is the original verse:

    Revelation 4:6b-11

    "In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back. The first of these living beings was like a lion;
the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. Each of these livings beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, 'Holy, holy holy is the Lord God, the Almighty-the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.' Whenever the living beings give glory and thanks to the one sitting on the throne(the one who lives forever and ever), the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne( the one who lives forever and ever). And they
lay their crowns before the throne and say, ' You are worthy O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor an power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.'"

I then looked it up in Sheperd's Notes, and this is what the "translation" said:

"Because we do not see God as He is in His glory and power, we do not wirship Him as we should. Other created beings-the living creatures and the twenty-four elders- have a clearer vision so they can teach us. Both groups are most likely heavenly creatures of different classes of angels.
We are not alone in the universe, but we share it with many other intelligent beings. Paul says other intelligent heavenly creatures are learning about God's wisdom through God's plan of salvation in the church. Since the worship fo God is in the center of the spiritual universe, should it not be the of our lives? John saw the thrne of God where the control of the universe takes place."

Right after that quote, " We are not alone in the universe", they gave some more verses related to that, I read them and they talk about angels and chariots of fire. It could be that all of this is pointing to angels, but it's still something to keep in mind...

    Im sorry,

But anyone who believes this garbage is highly laughable to me...

The bible is one of those things that can be interpreted in any way one chooses, thats why i dont trust it. I enjoy reading it sometimes though, it has a great plot to it, lol. Sike

Honestly, i like the psalms and proverbs, im a sucker for music. In that case the bible should just be psalms and proverbs, and take out all the holy religious b.s., but keep the practical advice i.e. "thall shall not bite your friends"

so far man appears to be the only beings limited to these 4 dimensions and then anything beyond that would be GOD'S other beings such as angels, so mankind could be all alone in these limited dimensions but obviously not alone if you included higher dimensions

Hi Neko First i must confess I don't beleive in the supreme being idea. And i am not a big fan of the church. But I am interested in the the bible. I think there is not a lot of debate to say jesus did exist, as to who he was.... well that is another matter. I have not really taken an interest in the book of revelations before, I sort of just pick here and there bits that look interesting. Having said that, and looking at your post. You may be interested to read Ezekiel. did you just hear a big "SIGH" from the rest of the forum, this is a favourite topic of mine. I will save you the time of looking it up, here is a quote.

Ok yeah, before I do, just ignore vyrtigo, we all do. He is just showing his ignorance.

Now when you read this, keep in mind that old Ezekiel would have never seen any aircraft, any thing that can fly other than a bird, keep an image of the smoke and flames of a shuttle launch, the canopy of a jet, the meatalic landing legs on a lunar lander, the wings of a plane and helicopter, and what the noise of ajet maysound like to someone of biblical times.
Also, if you chase up the literal translation, it still reads pretty much the same.

    Ezekiel 1 (King James Version)

1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.

2 In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity,

3 The word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him.

4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.

6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.

8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.

9 Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.

10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.

11 Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies.

12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went.

13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

15 Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces.

16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.

17 When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went.

18 As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four.

19 And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.

20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

21 When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.

22 And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.

23 And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.

24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.

25 And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings.

26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

27 And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.

28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

But anyone who believes this garbage is highly laughable to me...

How would you feel if some one said that to you about your beliefs?
No one has all the answers to what life is, and its up to each of us to find out what it is for us. Not to insult others for not believing in what they do. Keep up your study, it may the true way,who knows.
Whoever said anything was possible, obviouly never tried slamming a revolving door.

Because it has been the most corrupt, the most hypocritical, and caused uncountable loss of life. I try hard not to attack a personal beleif, but I do attack the institution called the church, and yes I am generalising. It is unfortunate that sometimes the lines are confused and difficult to seperate. I really do respect personal choice and a persons beleif in God, but I hate the institution called the church and all it represents and i think I always will. I see the two as very very different things.

Have you study the history of Christianity? not including the gospels. I am sure you will find answers.
