Jediism?

Okay, I thought Jediism was a joke at first, but then I found out that it is an actual religion (although from the looks of things it's pretty small...).

I'm not hating on their faith, but I'm just wondering somebody would name their religion after something in a movie? It doesn't really make much sense, and seems to me that you're just asking to be made fun of. Although the whole walking around in a cloak with a hood thing is pretty cool...

Just wondering if people really take Jediism seriously, other than the "Jedi" of course.

Again, not hating on their faith, I think it's kinda weird, but who am I to talk? I'm a Christian, which makes me a member of one of the strangest religions out there (just take a look at some early Christian literature).

So, thoughts on Jediism? Would you take someone serious if they said that they were a Jedi?

I really don't know much about it tbh, if people want to more power to them, Star Wars was based on religious texts by the way :wink2:.

I knew Star Wars had parts of different religions in it, (on the surface I mostly see the New Age movement...) but creating a whole religion based off of the religion/organization in the movie?

lol I was referring to ancient hindu texts but you are right as well. I don't know I am sure there are some deep roots there, needs more time and research though so I can't really comment.

I really can't see this as being anything more than an extreme expression of Star Wars fandom.

They take it a lot more seriously than could be explained away as Star Wars fandom. They really do believe in the Force and all that.

Baghavgita sounds familiar... But are you sure you're not talking about Bhagavata? I can't find anything online about a Baghavgita.
